Arrival in Cappadocia
Kaymakli Underground City - Situated beneath the hill known as the Citadel of Kaymakli, the Kaymakli Underground City was opened to visitors in 1964. The residents of Kaymakli village, historically known as Enegup in Greek, have built their homes around nearly a hundred tunnels of this underground city. Even today, locals utilize the most accessible areas within these tunnels as cellars, storage spaces, and stables, which they reach through their courtyards. The Kaymakli Underground City features low, narrow, and sloping corridors. Although the city extends 8 floors below ground, only 4 are currently accessible to the public, with spaces organized around ventilation shafts.
Love Valley - These stunning rock formations are entirely natural and are ancient structures located over a thousand meters above sea level. The area experiences minimal rainfall, with Cappadocia having hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. At Love Valley, visitors can enjoy the view from above or hike down to the base of these impressive formations. The hike is safe and easy, offering a true sense of Cappadocia’s enchanting atmosphere.
Red Valley - Known for its striking red hue at sunset, the Red Valley’s rock formations are a must-see in Cappadocia. During the day, the sandstone landscape varies from light pinkish-grey to peachy-orange, depending on the light. Experiencing the rosy sunset in Cappadocia’s Red Valley will be a highlight of any trip, with numerous ways to enjoy this natural spectacle.
Cavusin - Cavusin is a picturesque and historic village, one of the oldest in the region, located along the Goreme-Avanos road in Cappadocia. Early Christians created living spaces within the fairy chimneys to escape Roman persecution and practice their faith freely. Today, locals continue to reside in these rock-cut dwellings and stone houses.
Pigeon Valley - Nestled between Göreme and Uçhisar, Pigeon Valley is perfect for a leisurely walk, as the trail is relatively easy. The valley is named for the thousands of pigeon houses carved into the soft tuff since ancient times. While these can be found throughout Cappadocia, they are especially abundant here. Pigeons have historically been a source of food and fertilizer in the region. Although chemical fertilizers have reduced the use of pigeon dung, some farmers maintain their lofts, believing that the sweetness and succulence of Cappadocian fruits are due to pigeon dung.

Uchisar Castle - Uchisar Castle is the highest point in Cappadocia. This fairy chimney, admired for its unique structure, was later transformed into a natural fortress. Climbing the 120 steps to the castle’s summit offers a fantastic introduction to Cappadocia’s mountainous landscape, providing views of all the region’s valleys.
Goreme Open-Air Museum - The Göreme Open Air Museum was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. Its historical and natural features are carefully preserved, with ongoing maintenance. Attracting over 1 million visitors annually, the museum’s popularity continues to grow. Monastic life thrived here for centuries, with numerous dining halls and places of worship from the 4th to the 13th centuries AD. This lifestyle marked the region as the birthplace of the monastic education system.
Fairy Chimneys - Visitors to Cappadocia often head to Pasabag Valley to witness the finest fairy chimney formations. Once a retreat for monks, this area is now a popular tourist destination. Walking among the fairy chimneys allows visitors to appreciate the natural beauty and unique features of the valley. Historically used as a retreat by priests and monks, the valley contains many rock-cut monasteries, churches, chapels, settlements, tunnels, and mills. The fairy chimneys, shaped by strong winds and precipitation eroding the tuff structures, have a distinctive mushroom-like appearance in this region.
