- India Gate - Originally named the All India War Memorial, India Gate is a war memorial situated along the Rajpath, on the eastern edge of New Delhi’s “ceremonial axis,” formerly known as Kingsway.
India Gate commemorates 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who lost their lives between 1914 and 1921 during the First World War in regions such as France, Flanders, Mesopotamia, Persia, East Africa, Gallipoli, and other areas in the Near and Far East, as well as the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The names of 13,300 servicemen, including some from the United Kingdom, are inscribed on the gate. Although a war memorial, India Gate’s architectural style resembles that of a triumphal arch, similar to the Arch of Constantine near the Colosseum in Rome, and is often compared to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Gateway of India in Mumbai. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.
In 1972, following the Bangladesh Liberation War, a simple structure was added beneath the towering Memorial Archway. This consists of a black marble plinth with a reversed rifle, topped by a war helmet, and surrounded by four eternal flames.
- Birla Mandir Temple (Lakshmi Narayan) - The Laxminarayan Temple, also known as Birla Mandir, is a Hindu temple largely dedicated to Laxminarayan in Delhi, India. Laxminarayan refers to Vishnu, the Preserver in the Trimurti, also known as Narayan, when accompanied by his consort Lakshmi. The temple, inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, was constructed by Jugal Kishore Birla between 1933 and 1939. The side temples are dedicated to Shiva, Krishna, and Buddha.
This was the first large Hindu temple built in Delhi. Spanning 7.5 acres, it features numerous shrines, fountains, and a large garden adorned with Hindu and Nationalistic sculptures, and also includes Geeta Bhawan for discourses. The temple is a major attraction in Delhi, drawing thousands of devotees during the festivals of Janmashtami and Diwali.
- Gurudwara Bangla Sahib - Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most prominent Sikh gurdwaras, or Sikh houses of worship, in Delhi. It is renowned for its association with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, and the pool within its complex, known as the “Sarovar.” Initially built as a small shrine by Sikh General Sardar Bhagel Singh in 1783, it was part of the construction of nine Sikh shrines in Delhi during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam.
Located near Connaught Place, New Delhi, on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, it is easily recognizable by its golden dome and tall flagpole.
- Red Fort - Later, travel to Old Delhi to capture some beautiful photos of the Red Fort, a historic fort in Delhi, India. It served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years, until 1856. Situated in the center of Delhi, it houses several museums. Besides accommodating the emperors and their households, it was the ceremonial and political center of the Mughal state and the venue for events that significantly impacted the region.
