As one of the Seven Wonders of the World, it stands as the most extravagant expression of love ever created. Twenty thousand men labored for over 17 years to build this memorial to Shah Jahan’s beloved wife. The wealth of white marble and semi-precious stones is undoubtedly the highlight of the tour. Later, visit the imposing Agra Fort, built of red sandstone and marble, featuring fabulous courtyards, fountains, and gates. The rest of the evening is free to explore the local handicrafts and shopping centers of the city, where one can find marble inlay work, fine quality carpets, Zari and embroidery, and leather goods. Wander among the glittering inlays and the Hall of Mirrors. After lunch, tour the Maharaja’s City Palace, now partly a museum displaying a unique fusion of Mughal and Hindu architecture, and housing a rare collection of paintings, Rajput armory, and costumes. Later, visit the unique Jantar Mantar Observatory, situated in the heart of the city, where time has been accurately measured since the 17th century.
