• Hawa Mahal - Palace of Wind - Constructed by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 A.D., the Hawa Mahal, or “Palace of Wind,” is renowned for its intricate and imaginative architecture.

The expansive pyramidal facade features five stories of semi-octagonal overhanging windows with perforated screens, domes, and spires.

• Amber Palace - Located just 11 km from Jaipur, the Amer Fort complex is nestled among wooded hills overlooking the Delhi-Jaipur highway, with its imposing ramparts mirrored in the tranquil waters of Maota Lake below.

A prime example of Rajput architecture, it served as the ancient capital of the Kachhawah rulers. The original palace was constructed by Raja Man Singh, with later additions by Sawai Jai Singh.

Inside the palace are the Diwan-e-Aam or “Hall of Public Audience,” the Diwan-e-Khas or “Hall of Private Audience,” and the Sukh Niwas, where a cool breeze flows across water channels for air-conditioning.

The private chambers of the queens feature windows with latticed screens, allowing the ladies to observe the royal court proceedings in privacy. The Jai Mandir or “Temple of Victory,” with its renowned Sheesh Mahal, the dazzling “Hall of Mirrors,” is also located here.

• Jaigarh Fort - The western skyline is dominated by the extensive walls, watchtowers, and gateways of Jaigarh Fort.

It is one of the few military structures from medieval India that remains almost intact, containing palaces, gardens, open and covered reservoirs, a granary, an armory, a well-planned cannon foundry, several temples, a tall tower, and a giant mounted cannon—the Jaivana, the largest cannon in the world.

It was expanded and given its current form by Sawai Madho Singh in 1885 A.D. The decorative motifs in some rooms are delightful.

From the windows of the nine identical suites, one can enjoy a magnificent view of the city, complete with its geometric layout. From Amer, a road leads to Nahargarh, passing through the hills.

• City Palace of Jaipur - The City Palace is a grand blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal art and architecture.

The City Palace complex houses several palatial structures. The first building is Mubarak Mahal, built by Maharaja Madho Singh. It features a beautifully carved marble gate with heavy brass doors on either side. Beyond this gate lies the Diwan-e-Khas, or “Hall of Private Audience.”

Across a paved square is the Diwan-e-Aam, or “Hall of Public Audience.” To the northwest is the stately and elegant seven-story Chandra Mahal, the residence of the former ruler. Each story has a unique name and is a place of sheer beauty and luxury. Paintings, floral decorations, mirror walls, and ceilings in the traditional style adorn the palace.
