India Gate - The India Gate, previously known as the All India War Memorial, is a war memorial situated near the Rajpath (now Kartavya Path) on the eastern edge of New Delhi’s “ceremonial axis.” It honors 74,187 Indian Army soldiers who perished between 1914 and 1921 during the First World War in various locations, including France, Flanders, Mesopotamia, Persia, East Africa, Gallipoli, and other regions in the Near and Far East, as well as the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The gate bears the names of 13,300 servicemen, including some from the United Kingdom. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the gate reflects the architectural style of ancient Roman triumphal arches, such as the Arch of Constantine in Rome, and is often likened to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Gateway of India in Mumbai.

Humayun’s Tomb - Humayun’s Tomb was commissioned by his first wife and chief consort, Empress Bega Begum (also known as Haji Begum). Construction started in 1565 and concluded in 1572, costing 1.5 million rupees, fully funded by the Empress. Deeply mourning her husband’s death, Bega Begum dedicated her life to creating a grand mausoleum for him near the Yamuna River in Delhi. According to Ain-i-Akbari, a detailed 16th-century document from Akbar’s reign, Bega Begum oversaw the tomb’s construction after returning from Mecca and completing the Hajj pilgrimage.

Lotus Temple - The Lotus Temple was designed by Iranian architect Fariborz Sahba, who now resides in La Jolla, California, after living in Canada. He was commissioned in 1976 to design the temple and later managed its construction. The structural design was handled by the British firm Flint and Neill over 18 months, and ECC Construction Group of Larsen & Toubro completed the construction at a cost of $10.56 million. Ardishír Rustampúr from Hyderabad, Sindh (Pakistan), donated the majority of the funds for the land purchase, as per his will, which allocated his life savings for the temple’s construction. A portion of the budget was saved to build a greenhouse for studying indigenous plants and flowers suitable for the site.
