- s.d.m.c primary school - This is a unique tour that offers insight into the daily lives of a Dilliwala (a person from Delhi). We believe that one of the most important things when you travel to a new place, is to understand the culture and systems of a place, and this tours helps you do exactly that. We will take you around the Sanjay Colony slum, which has a population of about 60,000 people. During the tour, you will visit a temple where you will understand what a significant role faith plays in people’s lives. You will also learn about the daily challenges faced by the locals, such as access to water. On the other hand, you will also see how education, electricity and hygiene systems flourish in these tight, resource constrained areas. You will ultimately understand how significant a close-knit community can be. Our guides are locals, so you can ask them as many questions you like and hear their personal experiences. We do this tour in an entirely respectful way and hence do not allow photography during the tour. The best part is, that 50% of the profits from Delhi by Locals go towards supporting the community of the Sanjay Colony slum, through Learning by Locals, our sister non-profit organisation.

Stories, Smiles, and Chai — A Special Day in Sanjay Colony - English
We joined the Sanjay Colony slum tour and it was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to India. Our guide, Sukh, was exceptional—knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the stories of the community. Her explanations were clear, engaging, and gave us a deeper understanding of daily life in the colony.
One of the highlights was visiting the local school and interacting with the children. They were so cheerful and curious, and their smiles made the visit truly special. We were touched by their eagerness to learn and the way they listened so attentively.
I also deeply appreciated the kindness and attention shown not only by Sukh, but by Pradeep as well, especially towards my son, who wasn’t feeling well due to the dust that day. Their thoughtfulness made us feel truly cared for throughout the tour.
During the tour, we stopped at a small shop for chai. It was milky, gingery, and far better than the hotel chai. I was a bit worried about my stomach, but I had no issues at all—and honestly, it was the best drink I had in India.
I regret forgetting to give a tip before leaving, and I truly apologize for that. This was an eye-opening, meaningful, and heartwarming day, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made it possible.

サンジャイ・コロニーのスラムツアーに参加しました。参加を迷っていたけど、思い切って参加してみて良かった。想像していたより全然素晴らしい体験になりました。ガイドのスクさんは知識が豊富でフレンドリー、そして地域のストーリーを熱意をもって伝えてくれました。説明はとてもわかりやすく、この地での暮らしや背景について深く知ることができました。
特に印象的だったのは、地元の学校を訪れて子どもたちと交流したことです。彼らは明るく好奇心旺盛で、笑顔が本当に素敵でした。学ぼうとする姿勢や、こちらの話を熱心に聞いてくれる様子に心を打たれました。アニメや韓国アイドルが好きな子もいて、日本の若者と変わらないなと。国や環境が違っても共通点があることに驚き、親しみを覚えました。
また、息子の体調（その日はほこりで鼻の調子が悪かった）を気にかけてくださり、安心して過ごすことができました。お気遣いいただき感謝しています。
日本から参加する方には、事前にWhatsAppをインストールすることをおすすめします。ツアー前日にツアー会社から連絡があり、やり取りがとてもスムーズです。タクシーで向かう場合、ドライバーの電話番号を伝えるとツアー会社がドライバーに連絡して、直接場所を説明してくれるので安心です。ツアーの終了時間は流動的ですが、会社とドライバーが直接連絡を取り合ってくれるので助かりました。
途中、小さな商店でチャイを飲みました。ミルク多め、生姜多めでホテルのチャイよりずっと美味しかった。お腹が心配でしたが結果的に全く問題ありませんでした。暑いチャイを飲んでゆっくり過ごしたあの時間も素晴らしい思い出です。
出発前にチップを渡し忘れてしまったことが心残りですが、それでもこの日はとても有意義で素晴らしい体験となりました。スクさん、プラディープさん、そして子どもたち、本当にありがとうございました！

A Must-Do in Delhi: Thoughtful, Authentic, and Community-Driven Tours - I first connected with Delhi by Locals in 2019, where I met Pradeep, the founder, who curated an unforgettable experience for us—from a day trip to the Taj Mahal in Agra to walking through Old Delhi and exploring the Sanjay Colony. The visit to the Colony was particularly moving, as it gave us the chance to see the daily life of locals and the inspiring impact of Learning by Locals, the NGO Pradeep founded. What makes this organization so special is that 50% of the profits go toward supporting education and opportunities for youth in the community.
Even more powerful was learning that many of the tour guides are former students of the NGO. These young guides, trained through Learning by Locals, lead the tours with insight, passion, and a genuine connection to the places they share. It’s not just a business—it’s a mission to uplift and empower.
When I returned to India in 2025, I reached out again, and just like before, Pradeep and his team made our experience truly memorable. If you’re looking for a way to explore Delhi that is authentic, meaningful, and community-driven, I can’t recommend Delhi by Locals highly enough.

Perfect tour of Northern India - We actually booked a custom tour of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. From first contact, Pradeep was extremely helpful with the organisation of our tour with our requirements at the forefront. Although perhaps not the cheapest it was only once we were on the tour we realised the reason. Booking this not only got an insight into the real Delhi we experienced many aspects of the city that just wouldn't be on any normal itinerary. The work Delhi By Locals does for the good of the community is really humbling to witness and our small part in helping it happen is more rewarding than words can explain. Our tours of Agra and Jaipur were also organised with exceptional guides who were fluent in English and extremely knowledgeable. Throughout our 11 days we felt looked after and secure. Our car was well maintained and our driver made us feel completely safe in even the craziest of Indian traffic. His knowledge of the routes even outside of Delhi was quite incredible. We booked with Delhi By Locals because of a recommendation of a friend who used the company 6 years ago. I'm delighted to say the passing time has not dulled the service or personal touch and cannot recommend Delhi By Locals highly enough.

One of the most treasured experiences - This honestly was one of the best highlights of my trip to India. Pradeep / Delhi by Locals was highly recommended to me by a friend who had used their expertise before with a trip for their family to India . I am so glad that I followed her advice and for the connection. Pradeep and his team from Delhi by Locals provided the most informative , well organized and insightful tours in the Sanjay Colony.
My son (15yrs old) and I were picked up from our hotel by a driver arranged by Pradeep. Pradeep accompanied us in the car to Sanjay Colony , giving us a briefing of what to expect , about the children , the schools and the lifestyle they lead.
Once we arrived we met another one of his team members, so friendly and welcoming.
We walked through the alleys that were filled with mounds of scraps of cloths, with groups of women tending to sorting through them. We received a thorough explanation as to how they sort through them , the efficiency , and the purpose of them sorting, which was to sell and recycle in a very organized matter to produce new clothing. It was fascinating to learn so many details of an incredible way to reuse , reduce waste and give an opportunity for women to work within the community.
Next we were able to visit the school / classrooms that were developed by Learning by Locals (another branch of Delhi by Locals, which empowers local children to enhance their skills in computers, English , art, and leadership. We met with the beautiful and welcoming children in some of these classrooms, and their teachers. We engaged in conversation, learning about their hobbies, their interests and sharing ours. We played many games with them, and together had many laughs a long the way...I can honestly say that this was one of the most special and treasured moments that we will always remember.
This entire experience was truly absolutely incredible . We really had no idea what to expect, and I can say that this was the highlight of our trip, thanks to Delhi by Locals. We are looking so forward to visiting them again when we plan our next trip to India. Very grateful to Pradeep and his team for all the excellent work they do to help the community, and for making our trip so special.

A Real taste of Delhi - Amazing experience with Delhi by Locals! Our guide, Pradeep, was incredibly warm, knowledgeable, and made the experience feel personal from the start. Visiting a local school and meeting the kids-it was heartwarming and truly authentic. If you want to see the real Delhi and connect with its people, this is the perfect way to do it. was a truly special moment.

A must do tour for all! - This has been a highlight of our trip to India.

A day we will never forget - By far, on of the greatest experiences of my life. Salman was just the perfect guide. Funny, knowledgable, interested to learn and one of the most important parts of being a guide, listened to what we needed.
The slum tour was incredible. We went on Republic Day and took part in the celebrations with the school.
Pradeep and his team are amazing. Highly recommend.

Excellent Tours for the Force of Good - Except for the Covid years, we have visited India several times and always make a point of connecting with Delhi by Locals.
This time we revisited Sanjay Colony to get an update on the life of the remarkable people who live there. We were fortunate that Pradeep could join us and after the excellent tour, we were privileged to join an English class for a Q&A session, run by Pradeep and his team under the NGO title of 'Learning by Locals'.
This initiative is funded by the profits from the tours and gives hope through training and scholarships to over 300 students, many of them are female.
In the evening we were treated to another tour focussing on the importance and understanding of Ramadan where we visited the large Mosque in Old Delhi and we shared in the Breaking of the Fast and witnessed the spectacle of light and worship.
We always recommend Delhi by Locals to any fellow travellers thet we meet. Every tour is informative and enjoyable and knowing that your contribution is giving practical help and hope to so many deserving young people makes the experience even more rewarding.

top draw organisation - Delhi by locals have been absolutely fantastic. They made all the arrangements for our visit to Kochi, Chennai and the Mumbai. Nothing was too difficult for Pradeep to arrange. Both my wife and I could not be more grateful. Although Delhi by locals are based in Delhi, hence the company name, we where not aware that they can make arrangements throughout India, and for us this meant guides, places of interest and taxis. By far the most outstanding tour was a back water cruise in Kochi, this was the highlight of our visit to India. DBL arranged a taxi and boat for a remarkable price. DBL go the extra mile to ensure everything arranged is 100%, with post messages to request feedback from the tour. Everything was indeed 100%. Whilst in Mumbai I had a stomach bug and DBL arranged for me to visit a doctor, wow, this was amazing service. I would recommend DBL, the service was outstanding and the cost for making arrangements was very reasonable. Ask for Pradeep.
