Setting Sail to Sandy Cay

The day began with a gentle breeze and the promise of adventure as we set sail from Paradise Island. Our guides, Cameron and TJ, were the epitome of island hospitality, greeting us with warm smiles and a laid-back vibe that instantly put everyone at ease. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, but there’s something uniquely thrilling about speeding across the Caribbean Sea on a fast boat. The spray of saltwater was a refreshing reminder of the ocean’s embrace, and I couldn’t help but chuckle as I quickly downed my beer to avoid it becoming a salty cocktail.

Our first stop was Sandy Cay, famously known as Gilligan’s Island. The sight of this iconic location was a nostalgic nod to the past, and I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos. The water here was a mesmerizing shade of turquoise, so clear that it felt like we were floating on air. It was the perfect prelude to the underwater wonders that awaited us.

Snorkeling and Swimming with Pigs

Next, we headed to Rose Island, where the real magic began. The coral reef was a vibrant tapestry of colors, teeming with marine life. As I slipped into the water, I was greeted by a kaleidoscope of fish darting around me. Snorkeling here was like diving into a living aquarium, and I relished every moment of it.

But the highlight of Rose Island was undoubtedly the pigs. These charming creatures have become local celebrities, and it’s easy to see why. Dottie, one of the pigs, was particularly endearing, patiently posing for photos in exchange for treats. The guides were fantastic, ensuring everyone had a chance to interact with the pigs and capturing the moments with their cameras. It was a surreal experience, swimming alongside these well-trained pigs in such a stunning setting.

Lunch and Turtles at Green Cay

After our piggy adventures, we made our way to a local beach bar for lunch. The beach at Rose Island was a slice of paradise, with calm, clear waters and soft sand that invited relaxation. I opted for a veggie burger, which was surprisingly delicious, and enjoyed a complimentary rum drink as I soaked in the sun.

Our final stop was Green Cay, where we were treated to a spectacle of sea turtles. I had hoped to see one or two, but they were everywhere, gracefully gliding through the water. One even had a tracker on its back, a testament to the conservation efforts in the area. It was a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and discovery.
