Explore statues of notable figures like Bolivar and Marti, or enjoy those of playful characters such as the sled-dog Balto and figures from Alice in Wonderland. Cross the picturesque and renowned Gapstow Bridge en route to the Central Park Zoo. Walk along the tree-lined Mall, discussing the literary figures along the way, and conclude at the iconic Bethesda Terrace and Fountain. Pass by Tavern on the Green to reserve dinner for later or join locals in Sheep Meadow, where New Yorkers from all walks of life unwind and relax.
- 432 Park Avenue - After meeting your guide at the Latin America History equestrian statues on the corner of 6th Ave & 59th St, you will enter the park. One of the first sights is the surviving ASPCA horse drinking fountain, installed in 1912. Despite the dominance of automobiles, this remains the only city location where a horse can drink water if needed.
Proceed west to enjoy a breathtaking view of the new SuperScrapers. 432 Park Avenue is a residential skyscraper overlooking Central Park. As the second tallest building in New York, following One World Trade Centre, it is a prime residential location.
- Time Warner Center - Next, visit the Time Warner Center, a mixed-use building complex featuring two twin towers connected by a multi-story atrium. The complex houses upscale retail shops, along with office and residential spaces. Another remarkable skyscraper to capture in photos!
- Bow Bridge - Then, visit Bow Bridge, the largest bridge in the park. This cast iron bridge, designed with Classical Greek elegance in the 19th century, stands out with its interlocking circles banister and intricate details beneath the arch span.
- Gapstow Bridge - Another bridge on your tour is the stunning schist Gapstow Bridge, originally built in 1874. The bridge provides one of the best views of the New York City skyline, perfect for capturing great city shots.
- Turtle Pond - Next, head to the Great Lawn, a 55-acre site renowned as one of the world’s most famous lawns. It’s an ideal spot for a spring picnic or sunbathing in summer. Nearby is Turtle Pond, home to most of the park’s turtles.
- The Dakota - Following this, see the Dakota, arguably the city’s most famous cooperative building. Built in 1884, it retains much of its original charm. It was home to John Lennon, former Beatles member, from 1973 until his tragic death in the building’s archway in 1980.
- Strawberry Fields, John Lennon Memorial - Next, visit Strawberry Fields, a 2.5-acre area in Central Park honoring the late Beatle, John Lennon. This designated quiet area is lined with elm trees, shrubs, flowers, and rocks, creating a serene, picturesque setting.
- Bethesda Fountain - During your walk, encounter the Angel of Bethesda atop Bethesda Fountain. Situated in the center of Bethesda Terrace, the angel was New York City’s first major public art piece commissioned from a woman.
- Central Park Zoo - Finally, conclude the tour at the Central Park Zoo, located at the southeast corner of Central Park in New York City. Here, you can either stay to enjoy the park’s beautiful landscapes or have your guide accompany you to the nearest subway.
