This iconic restaurant has been the backdrop for several films, including “Boardwalk Empire,” “Sopranos,” “Get Gotti,” and more. It was here in 1931 that Luciano established the mafia Commission. The HBO series “Boardwalk Empire,” along with “Sopranos,” “Get Gotti,” and the soon-to-be-released documentary “After Goodfellas,” featuring one of our tour guides, were filmed here.
John’s of 12th Street was founded in March 1908 by John Pucciatti, who immigrated from Umbria, Italy, to the East Village, which was then a vibrant Italian American community centered around 1st Avenue. The current owner, Lowell Fein, along with partners Paul Dauber and Robbie Rundbaken, continues to uphold the legacy of the namesake. The Italian neighborhood in the East Village predates even Little Italy. This is the only Mafia experience permitted to enter the establishment.
