A Most Inviting Experience - An exceptional space with the best of a wide range of American art. Start at the top floor, walk through the galleries and pause for a time on the outside deck with views of Meatpacking the Highline, Little Island (Hudson River), and the city. The cafe serves pastries from Frenchette, and there are tables outside on the deck. After that walk down the outside staircase to the next galleries.

Great for those who like American art - Very good museum with beautiful American art. Start from the last floor and continue down. There is also a terrace with beautiful views of the Village and New Jersey. Admire Hoppers, in addition to other American classics.

GREAT ART ON A FREEZING AFTERNOON - Went to the Whitney Musuem and it was just great. It's nice that it is not so huge. The Calder exhibit was wonderful and their permanent exhibit is a great collection. The view of the Hudson River even with ice on it is great. They have a nice cafe.

The docents were so... - The docents were so helpful and Stanley in the gift shop was especially knowledgeable and a delight to talk to.

Free Second Sunday, great art! - We went on the free Second Sunday of the month (get tix in advance) and while it was crowded, it was not uncomfortably so. The Calder's Circus exhibit was amazing - seeing the figures was interesting, then watching the movie of Calder performing the circus really brought it all to life. Other floors had interesting art as well - we started by taking the elevator to the top then worked our way down via the stairs. Take the staircase facing the river for great views. They also had live performances going on in the lobby. Chelsea market is nearby for lunch!

Friday night is free - Took advantage of the Friday evening no-cost ticket to see the Biennial. A highlight of the exhibition is the work by Ali Eyal.

Where’s the Art? - After purchasing two adult tickets, I was told that only two floors were open. The crowds were formidable and the noise unnerving. There was very little art to view. The room for the Calder Circus Exhibit was dark and gloomy….just didn’t seem effective for his circus wire people. One mobile was displayed. The building is transparently beautiful with lovely views of the Hudson River and New Jersey. This collection needs work.

An empty space worth no price - I live in New York, but hadn’t been to the Whitney since pre covid. Oof. There is nothing here. For $30 there is almost no art, and what is here is quite mediocre. Two galleries were closed out of the 4 or so, and only one really contained art. This has apparently been a theme at the Whitney for years: charging full price but offering something 1/4 full. Honestly this museum should just be closed down for housing, it serves no purpose and displays no art. Go to the Met or the Moma if you’re visiting. You can spend all day at the met. I’d be impressed if you can spend more than 30-40 minutes here.
