Doubtful Sounds Adventure - Dress warmly and have the most amazing experience on this tour. Boat ride across Lske Manapouri seeing a beautiful sunrise if you do the early tour. A bus takes you over the Willmot Pass to Doubtful Sounds where you catch another boat that takes you out to the Tasman Sea. You will see seals and many waterfalls. On the way back they will take you up one of the arms turn the engine off so you can just listen to nature through the silence, just beautiful. Take some bug spray with you as the sandflies are huge and love to have a taste of you.

Do it. - Great experience! Definitely worth doing. Stunningly beautiful. It’s a boat ride in Lake Manapouri, then a bus/shuttle ride to another boat going through Doubtful Sound.

It's not an excursion, it's an experience - There's so much to this trip — it's like three in one. First, you have the lovely boat ride through Lake Manapouri. Then we got off the boat and transferred to three luxury coach buses to travel on an unpaved road over the mountain through Wilmot Pass. It's a 50-minute trip through the pass (with entertaining commentary and a few stops for photos). Then it's a transfer to another lovely boat (indoor seating on multiple levels, cafe, restrooms, etc., plus commentary, and, for a delicious moment... silence) in Doubtful Sound. After reaching the Tasman Sea, we return and do the whole trip in reverse. Back by around 5 pm. It was rainy. And foggy. And cloudy. Apparently, a normal day for Doubtful Sound, and while you might think that a sunny day would be better, it's actually so eerily beautiful in the clouds and fog, and the rain creates waterfalls. Everywhere. I'm a huge waterfall fanatic, and I didn't even take pictures of all of them; there were so many. An amazing day.

Loved this tour - Wonderful tour. Great guides and well organized all around. We did the Milford Sound overnight with RealNZ and had a wonderful experience on that as well. Well worth the money and a great way to experience the fjord lands.

Three experiences in one Tour - We took the 7.30am tour from Manapouri where we had stayed overnight, just a 5min drive to marina. We saw the sun rise and mist over Lake Manapouri on the first boat. After that the coach through the forest was amazing with an exceptional dialogue from Alan. Then came Doubtful Sound in all its glory. The rain the day before gave us more waterfalls and we were given the sound of silence as well, no boat engine, no people talking or walking absolutely nothing, made me smile. We loved this tour for the 3 different experiences and the staff made it all the more sweet.

No doubts about Doubtful! - From the start to the finish, the whole day was brilliant. The RealNZ staff made the every stage, the first ferry then a bus transfer, followed on with the Doubtful Sound cruise itself, full of nature facts and information. Stopping at great view points on the way. The cruise is spectacular although we didn’t see any dolphins or whales we did see plenty of seals on the rocks between the Sound and Tasman Sea. The scenery is stunning. Too much to keep taking photos so just stand back and see the beauty of nature at its best!

This was a lovely... - This was a lovely excursion to visit Doubtful Sound. It’s really quite spectacular. Based on my experience I would recommend Milford Sound over Doubtful. From a solo traveler perspective, it was not so great with the coach ride. Tourists can be pretty aggressive with queues and seats. Hard to get good spots without appearing like the bad person as a solo traveler. Note there are about 140 people on the excursion.

Horrible First Encounter - The sound is beautiful and the company did a very good job once we were underway but my first experience of the company was extremely disappointing as I was scolded by an 18 year old. We follow Viator's instructions and the information that had been sent to us, arriving at the time that our email had recommended. However, the parking lot was already full. It was dark (we were the first trip of the day) and ran inside to ask the attendant a question. She scolded us for being late. We said, "But we are still early based on what the email communication said." She replied sharply to us, "It's Viator's fault. They don't update their site. You should have been here earlier." It took a while to recover from such a stressful and demeaning first encounter. If there is another company taking trips to Doubtful Sound, I would choose them. Unfortunately, I do not think there is one. Also, the information at Viator was incorrect in terms of on board purchases, etc. We did not plan well because information was incorrect. So whether it was Viator's fault or RealNZ's fault. I would have like better communication. And I would think RealNZ would want to make sure everything is communicated correctly.
