Great day at Cape Kidnappers! - Our tour guide Jan was amazing- so full of great information. The drive up is something else😁. Bouncy and windy past the sheep and the cows. But worth the drive for the gannet colony and the fabulous views of Cape Kidnappers.

Great trip but history matters - Fantastic trip to see the gannets and our Australian friends were amazed at how close you can get to the gannets. The rock strata of the cape is as spectacular if not better than the White Cliffs of Dover. But history does matter and should not be altered to make a better story. The William Morris whaling station below was my gg Grandfathers until 1844 and his history at the cape is well documented. The guide claimed the ship wreck below was a William Morris whaling boat. His photos show a large rusty boiler as evidence. Sorry, wooden whaling row boats are propelled with oars, not steam engines. The ship wreck is a coastal freighter called the SS Go Ahead travelling from Wellington to Napier, it got lost in fog and smashed into the Cape. I am only writing this review as the guide would not accept the obvious. You are the commercial history tellers of the Cape so I think the history (large and small) should be told correctly when you know better.

Must do experience visiting the gannet colony! - Just the most lovely excursion! Our driver and guide, Wayne, drove us through the most glorious landscape on the way to the gannet colony. He pointed out trees, birds, sheep, black angus, etc and gave us so much history of the area. We were so close to the gannets, who were nesting and flying within meters of us. Highly recommend!

Gannet Safaris overland tour to Cape Kidnappers - My husband and I booked our tour directly with Gannet Safaris Overland. We were arriving on a cruise ship for one day only and used the ships shuttle bus to the I site ( tourist information office) in Napier. We met our tour guide John very nearby, as instructed, where we joined a bus to be taken to their offices a short drive away. There we were transferred to a smaller guide bus for our journey to Cape Kidnappers essentially to see the gannets! John was an excellent guide/ driver describing all that we saw and lots of information about the Cape Kidnappers private land. We went to a stunning viewpoint and then onto a headland to see an abundance of gannets , including young ones. John explained everything about their habitat, breeding , life cycle and existence in Napier. He was really informative and able to answer everyone’s questions. He gave us tea/ coffee and biscuits and at no point did we feel rushed. He advised best places to stand for photographs and viewpoints, happily obliging with photographs. All in all it was a fantastic trip and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company and tour. Communication about our day from booking to end was 10 out of 10- thank you to everyone involved for making it perfect!
