Start your day with our shuttle and transfer services, where you will be picked up from your accommodation based on your chosen departure time. To enhance your understanding of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, we will share our local knowledge, culture, and stories, complementing your prior research. This information will be provided as you are driven to the heart of Tongariro National Park, home to New Zealand’s renowned one-day hike, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

The transfer to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing track at Mangatepopo Road takes approximately 45-60 minutes. During this journey, you will experience our ‘Māori blessings,’ where everyone gathers together. A speech is delivered in Māori, with acknowledgments and respect, followed by an English explanation, lasting about five minutes in total.

After the Māori and English speeches, a team photo will be taken—first for safety, then for fun! This photo is available for free on our social media pages and website.

You can use the walking poles for free during your self-guided hike. They are particularly helpful when descending the mountain or to alleviate pressure on your legs. Various sizes are available, so check them out at the drop-off point.

At the end of your hike, you will be picked up in the afternoon at your booked time from the Ketetahi trail end platform. You will be welcomed with a complimentary celebratory cold drink—a true lifesaver!

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION - Know Before You Go
New Zealand’s weather is unpredictable. Always check forecasts and be prepared for four seasons in one day. We collaborate closely with New Zealand’s Department of Conservation Weather Forecasts & Mountain Safety Council to encourage adherence to their outdoor safety code.

• Wear high-quality hiking boots
• Layer your clothing—avoid cotton; thermal and fleece are good choices as they remain warm when wet
• Waterproof and windproof outerwear is essential
• Bring a warm hat and gloves, even in hot weather, to avoid being caught out by the weather
• It’s advisable to have spare toilet paper and hand sanitizer, as they are not provided at the non-composting toilets along the Tongariro trail
• Use and pack high-factor sun protection
• Your food and water intake will be higher—pack plenty of water to avoid dehydration and extra high-energy food
• A fee applies if you return later than your scheduled time
• Respect people, the land, and the environment for preservation. Please pack out what you pack in
