- Jardin du Monastère de Cimiez - Begin your journey in the historical part of Nice, known as Cimiez. This area is renowned not only for the monumental Winter Palace of Queen Victoria but also for its proximity to the ruins of the ancient Roman city, Cemenelum (1st century C.E.). This archaeological site, surrounded by olive gardens, offers insights into Nice’s early history. Nearby, you will find museums dedicated to the famous painters Matisse and Chagall. This unique blend of history and art in one location is sure to captivate you.
- Église Orthodoxe Saint Nicolas et Sainte Alexandra - The next stop is St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe, opened in 1912 to serve the large Russian community that had settled in Nice by the late 19th century. Its Byzantine style and beautiful gardens tell another story of the city and its connection to the era of the Tsars.
- Promenade des Anglais - Continue along the iconic Promenade des Anglais, a famous boulevard along the Bay of Angels, stretching from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport to Port Lympia. Lined with grand hotels, including the majestic Negresco, a true gem of Belle Époque architecture, this promenade has been a favorite destination for walking, jogging, biking, and roller-skating for over a century and a half.
- Old Town - Next, stop at the doorstep of the Old Town, on the vibrant Massena Square, near the statue of Apollo. From here, enjoy a stroll through the heart of Old Nice. Must-see spots include Cours Saleya, an incredible flower market that transforms into a Mediterranean food court in the evenings, and the surrounding baroque streets near the Opera building, which still reflect the mood of the Napoleonic era as depicted in Matisse’s paintings. Just a few steps away, you can visit the Nice Cathedral of Saint Reparata, built in the 17th century, and learn about the mythical martyr girl who is the cathedral’s patroness. The splendid Neoclassical Palace of Justice and its charming square with a fountain and souvenir boutiques will also capture your attention.
- Castle Hill of Nice - From the Old Town, head to Castle Hill, which offers a panoramic view of the city and the Bay of Angels. This spot attracts tourists with its stunning waterfall and old Jewish cemetery.
