Chuzenji Temple - Chuzenji Temple (中禅寺, Chūzenji) is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Chuzenjiko, which derives its name from the temple. The temple’s primary deity is a six-meter-tall statue of Kannon, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, uniquely carved from a tree that remains rooted in the ground. The temple’s second floor features a rare collection of all five Buddhist Deva Kings (Myo-o). The ceiling of the hall showcases a large painting of a white dragon by the same artist who created the “Crying Dragon” at Toshogu Shrine. The inner chamber’s coffered ceiling is adorned with paintings of over a hundred flower species native to Nikko. From the veranda, visitors can enjoy stunning views of Lake Chuzenjiko.
