- Nikko Tosho-gu - Toshogu Shrine in Nikko is the resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which ruled Japan for over 250 years until the end of the Edo Period in 1868. This shrine complex is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can enjoy captivating stories about its architecture from their guide.
- Narabi Jizo - Situated in the Kanmangafuchi area of Nikko, these stone Jizo statues are aligned in front of a wall, extending for about a hundred meters, overlooking the Daiyagawa River. Jizo are known as the guardians of travelers’ souls and unborn children. These statues are also referred to as “Bake Jizo” or “Ghost Jizo” because the count of statues never seems to be the same, possibly due to some statues losing their heads in earthquakes and floods. However, the heads remain beside the Jizo bodies, eternally together yet apart.
- Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park - This was the former summer residence for Emperor Taisho, constructed in 1899, featuring a stunning garden. It is a rare opportunity for the public to access a former royal family residence.
- Kegon Falls - Kegon Falls, located in Nikko city, stands at 97 meters high and is fed by Chuzenji Lake. As one of Japan’s three tallest waterfalls, Kegon Falls offers an elevator for visitors to experience the powerful cascade.
- Lake Chuzenji - Nestled within Nikko National Park to the west of Nikko, Lake Chuzenji is Japan’s highest naturally formed lake. It was created around 20,000 years ago when the Daiyo River was blocked by lava from the eruption of nearby Mt. Nantai. At an elevation of 1,269 meters, the lake is at the peak of the altitude scale.
