Venturing Deep Into the Wilderness - Reaching Our Campsite
Algonquin Provincial Park - Meet the guide on Canoe Lake beach. Enjoy lunch while getting acquainted with fellow group members, who may become lifelong friends from around the globe.
Following guidance from the instructor, paddle together into the heart of Algonquin (approximately 15km/4 hours). There is a 300m portage and a significant beaver dam to navigate.
Upon reaching the stunning wilderness campsite, set up camp and gather firewood. Participants can unwind in hammocks or swim while the guide/chef prepares dinner. After dinner, relax by the fire with S’mores and storytelling.
Canoe Lake Access Point - This is the meeting point for lunch and canoe training.
Tom Thomson Memorial - This landmark is passed during the paddle across Canoe Lake.
Discovering Algonquin Park’s Backcountry - Wildlife Exploration
Algonquin Provincial Park - Begin the day with a delightful breakfast. Enjoy swimming, paddling, reading in a hammock, hiking, taking photographs for a National Geographic submission, or simply relaxing to the sound of loon calls. The guide can point out the best spots for fishing, photography, or practicing solo canoe strokes. Typically, the group opts for a morning hike of 3-5km.
After lunch, there is usually time for hammocks and lake swimming. The group often paddles in search of moose and beaver around dusk.
Dinner is followed by another campfire to roast the remaining marshmallows. The star gazing will be unparalleled, and the guide will howl for wolves. If fortunate, they might respond.
Returning Home with a Connection to Nature - Cherished Memories
Algonquin Provincial Park - Participants will pack up supplies while the guide prepares a memorable breakfast. With newfound canoeing skills, the paddle back (approximately 15km) to Canoe Lake beach will be smoother. A short hike to a scenic lookout or cliff jumping/swimming offers a breathtaking view from above. Return to the beach by 2pm.
Complimentary tour photos will provide lasting memories.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
-
No Smoking (bring dermal, chewable, or vape options, if needed)
-
Only small amounts of alcohol (128ml per person, total for the trip). No glass bottles or cans.
-
No flip-flops.
-
Only use cream or wipes style insect repellent (never bring aerosol or pump sprays). Remember, bug jackets are available.
-
Canoe safari boats seat 3, and each group of 9 people uses 3 boats. Depending on group configuration, families and couples may occasionally need to paddle in different boats (but all travel together).
-
Tents are private on this group adventure. Solo travelers will receive a solo tent.
-
Bus transport to/from Huntsville is available on Ontario Northland. An overnight stay in Huntsville is required. A $40 per person shuttle can be arranged to the park (please inform us in advance if needed). Extra baggage can be held if arriving by bus. Other group members can often provide a free ride back to Huntsville, or another shuttle can be arranged.
-
Fishing - You can bring your own gear, or rent gear for $50CAD, plus 13% tax, per person (please inform us in advance if needed). A fishing permit is also required if over 18. They can be purchased at our meeting location for $26.40CAD/day.
-
We also rent the following items: 30l waterproof backpack ($20CAD, plus 13% tax), 15l camera/day drybag ($10CAD, plus 13% tax), travel towel ($5CAD, plus 13% tax), and flashlights (free). Please inform us in advance if you require any of these items.

Packing - a 30l backpack or duffle per person should accommodate all clothing. Families/couples can use larger bags.
