- North Berwick Law - The peak is home to remnants of an Iron Age hill fort and the ruins of military buildings used during the Napoleonic Wars and World War II.
Since 1709, the law has been adorned with a whale’s jawbone. This bone was replaced three times before being removed in 2005 due to safety concerns. On June 26, 2008, a fiberglass replica of the whale bone, matching the size of the one removed in 2005, was airlifted into place, restoring North Berwick Law’s iconic landmark. The funding for the replica was generously provided by an anonymous benefactor of North Berwick.
- Dunbar - A historic harbor town with a castle, charming local shops, and a beach. It’s an ideal spot for lunch, and on sunny days, enjoying fish and chips on a bench by the harbor is a treat.
- Byre’s Hill and Hopetoun Monument - The viewing platform at the top is accessed by 132 steps of a dark, narrow, spiral staircase, offering panoramic views of the Firth of Forth and the surrounding countryside. The monument is a category B listed building. A path leads from a small car park at the base of the hill, winding steeply through wooded slopes and a corridor of gorse, before emerging onto the open hilltop. The views are spectacular: The Firth of Forth and Fife; Edinburgh and the Pentland Hills to the west; and The Lammermuir Hills to the south. On a clear day, the distant Cairngorms can even be seen to the north.
- Tantallon Castle - Constructed in the mid-14th century by William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas, it was passed to his illegitimate son, George Douglas, later the Earl of Angus. Despite several sieges, it remained in the family for much of its history. It was besieged by King James IV in 1491, and again by his successor James V in 1527, causing significant damage. Tantallon was involved in the First Bishops’ War in 1639, and during Oliver Cromwell’s invasion of Scotland in 1651, it was once more heavily damaged. It was sold by the Marquis of Douglas in 1699 to Hew Dalrymple, Lord North Berwick, and the ruin is now maintained by Historic Environment Scotland.
