These are the same journeys locals have enjoyed for years, now shared with you. This is not a pre-packaged tour; it’s an authentic experience of Interior Alaska, crafted from over 20 years of exploring these waters.
The adventure begins at the Nordale boat launch, where the journey upstream on the Chena River by jet boat commences. Upon reaching the Chena River Dam, the motor is turned off, transitioning to a serene drift, allowing the river to guide the way back downstream. This is when the pace slows, and the experience truly comes to life—free from engine noise, surrounded only by the sounds of the river and the wilderness.
Drifting offers some of the best opportunities to observe wildlife along the riverbanks and in the water. It’s common to spot moose feeding in the shallows, beavers working along the banks, and birds such as bald eagles and ducks. Occasionally, black bears are seen as we drift down the river. While wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, this tranquil stretch of river is prime habitat, and animals are frequently observed.
