Epic day aboard the Magic! - Fishing trip of a lifetime! Everything about this trip was perfect. The boat is top notch, the captain worked hard to get us on the fish, and was super pleasant to fish with. The deck hands, Jake and Austin, worked their tails off all day and were awesome to hang out with. If I ever fish in Hawaii again it will be aboard the Magic.

Great Experience - Great captain, crew, and operation. Fishing started off good then slowed way down for a few hours. The captain never stopped searching for birds, debris, or any other signs of life. The crew worked hard and made sure to explain what we were doing and why and were glad to answer any questions. Ended the day with a blue marlin, 8 mahi, a wahoo, and 5 skipjacks.

Once in a life time trip (well maybe) - Captain Russell is meticulous and has decades of experience. The boat was large and extremely comfortable. The crew was knowledgeable and worked extremely well as a team. I asked to go out and try for a marlin and they delivered. The boat leaves the dock early, so they can catch live bait which can be critical in increasing your chances for success. They were able to do this as a team without speaking very much. They were professional. Captain explained that we would need to run 30 miles to get to the best fishing grounds. He did troll most the way there. We had three knock downs and the last one resulted in me catching a 130 # blue marlin. While the fish was on, the crew all took their spots and got the other rods cleared. They instructed me on proper technique and steered the chair. They were excited about the catch and got me great pictures. We trolled on the way back and I caught a small yellow fin which the captain cut into steaks and were delicious for dinner. The faces on the tourist at the marina and on the site seeing boat when my fish were hanging up, were priceless. This trip to Hawaii was was my present to myself for retiring after 37 years of work. Once in a life time trip. After this successful fishing trip, I might have to come back. If you are serious about fishing, this is a serious fishing boat and crew.

Mediocre. - Went on a full day trip with Magic a few weeks ago. The boat was nice, but the experience was mediocre. We stopped on a pretty big school of mahi, and were only able to hook 4 of them, because our bait and hooks were huge. Left them biting... on top of that, one of the deckhands dropped one of them back into the ocean, and didn’t even mention anything to us. I know fishing is tough sometimes, but I felt that this trip had potential to be a great one, with a little more effort from the crew.

You will not fish...the captian and deckhand fish, you watch. - We booked a full day private charter. Immediately could tell we were a little "disregarded" as tourists. We were not involved in a single thing. Not baiting a line, not putting lines in the water, NOTHING. After trolling for about 6 hours with not a single bite the deck hand attempted to put two different kind of lures on. Nothing. At one point we came to a school of Mahi Mahi. Deckhand reels in lines, hooks frozen bait onto two fishing poles, hands one to the captain on top of the boat and takes the other one for himself up to the top and they fish.....while we continue to sit. We were not included on anything, not taught anything not allowed to do anything. It was a bummer. On the way back to the dock we got our first bite by a marlin. My son immediately went to the chair, deckhand came down but the boat kept trolling too fast. Within 2 minutes it had broke off. That was it. Only bite in 10 hours. While I know you cannot control fish biting or not, I felt that little effort was put into finding us fish or getting us a great experience. We were there to learn, to work to fish. We sat and watched and that was it. It was not a fishing experience at all. It was a watch other people fish experience. They need to improve making this an experience about the guests and not a day for the captain and deckhand to fish for themselves. The deckhand worked very hard. But that's about it.
