• Byodo-In Temple - Oahu’s Byodo-In Temple was constructed to honor the 100th anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants arriving in Hawai’i in 1868. Known as Phoenix Hall in Japan, the temple’s design resembles the outstretched wings of a bird or the Phoenix that adorns its roof. Walking around to the back reveals the building’s T-shape, with a pond flowing beneath the temple’s rear.

Built over three years, the temple was dedicated in June 1968 with a traditional Buddhist ceremony. It has since become one of Oahu’s top ten visitor attractions, drawing over 300,000 visitors annually.
