- Halona Blowhole - This natural marvel on Oahu was created by volcanic activity thousands of years ago. Halona Blowhole occasionally propels seawater up to 30 feet into the air due to waves passing through underwater lava tubes. The viewing area offers a stunning view of Halona Cove, a picturesque beach featured in numerous films and music videos. During winter, visitors might even spot whales in the nearby waters.
- Makapu’u Point - Located on Kalanianaole Highway at the southeastern tip of the island, Makapu’u is on the right side of the highway about 12 miles east of Honolulu, beyond Koko Head, Hanauma Bay, and Sandy Beach Park. Makapu’u is a remnant of a volcanic ridge that rises over 600 feet from the ocean, marking the easternmost point on Oahu. Look for signs for the parking lot where the road crests a large hill before descending sharply towards Waimanalo.
- Tropical Farms (The Macadamia Nut Farm Outlet) - Tropical Farms started as a roadside venture in 1987. With Kamehameha Highway in front and the Pacific Ocean behind, the founders embarked on an adventure that continues after three decades. They spent nights cracking, sorting, and packaging, while days were filled with children and selling fresh macadamia nuts from their car.
Today, Tropical Farms is ideally located. The founders, born and raised on Oahu, are delighted to offer a location that is among the most memorable in Hawaii, showcasing genuine country charm and hospitality.
- Kualoa Ranch - With two listings on the US Department of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places since the 1970s, Kualoa Ranch Private Nature Reserve is owned and managed by sixth-generation descendants of Dr. Gerritt P. Judd. Kualoa’s mission is to enrich lives by preserving its sacred lands and celebrating its history. Established in 1850, Kualoa aims to be a model steward of its 4000 acres, named Kualoa, Hakipu’u, and Ka’a’awa. The goal is to protect and enhance the natural beauty of these lands while developing sustainable recreational, agricultural, and aquacultural enterprises that align with the environment.
- Matsumoto Shave Ice - Matsumoto Shave Ice in Haleiwa Town is a must-visit on Oahu’s North Shore. This iconic spot has been serving Hawaiian Shave Ice since 1951 and is a favorite among tourists and locals. With a vibrant selection of tropical flavors and toppings, Matsumoto’s offers a delightful taste of Hawaii that keeps visitors returning.
- Dole Plantation - Established in 1950 as a fruit stand, the Dole Plantation in central Oahu now attracts visitors with its renowned pineapple harvests and the open-air Pineapple Express Train. Join an educational tour to learn about Hawaii’s fruit cultivation, its rich history, and agricultural practices. Afterward, explore the giant pineapple-shaped garden maze lined with 14,000 plants.
Be sure to purchase some pineapples and try the original pineapple Dole Whip. The pineapple salsa and jam make excellent souvenirs as well.
- Nico’s Pier 38 - French-born owner Nico Chaize made Hawaii his home after arriving as a foreigner. Food Network’s “Guy” discovered him at the Honolulu fish auction at 5:30 in the morning, hand-picking opah fish for the day’s special. Despite the gourmet quality of his fish, it is served takeout style without the gourmet price.
Special Dishes: Marlin Burger, Fried Ahi Belly, Opah with Crab Stuffing
