You can expect that your first lesson will start on the beach with your instructor. You will spend about 20 minutes learning proper water safety and etiquette, paddling technique, turning the surfboard, maneuvering over waves and positioning to stand up and ride your first wave. The rest of the time, about an hour to an hour and a half, is spent in the water learning to stand up and ride waves.
Once you stand up on your board for your first time, you will understand why surfers are so stoked all the time.

Awesome experience!! - We took our first trip to Hawaii a few weeks ago, over my college daughter’s spring break, and she really wanted to learn to surf. We booked this experience online, and it truly was one of the highlights of our trip! My husband and I got to watch our daughter from the nearby beach, and we were so impressed with the instruction and the experience that she received!It will be an experience that we all remember fondly, as it truly was a highlight of our entire week!

Very fun if you get the... - Very fun if you get the right guy get was very nice and informative not just about the surfing experience but also about the ocean and animals and everything not just learning how to get up on the surf board also just a very fun guy to be around.

Excellent instructors, excellent location - The instructors were very good at reading the waves and timing pushes to make sure you catch them. Even with a very busy beach, our instructor made sure we each had a safe line to ride each wave, and the instructor was attentive of making sure everyone had good equal time getting assists with waves.
The area we surfed in had very few reefs and was very safe to fall in, the depth was only a few feet high. The ability to easily stand up and feel safe made this feel like an excellent beginner experience into surfing.
The only downside: It’s very busy where the surfing lessons will be, so traffic can impact the lesson. The instructor’s take this into account, though, and they did a good job of mitigating the impact.

Amazing experience! Super... - Amazing experience! Super fun, and the instructors were incredibly helpful the whole time. They made sure we felt safe and confident. Everything was well-organized, and the atmosphere was great. I would definitely do it again. 100% recommended!

Great experience! - My husband and teen did a surf lesson last week with Big Wave Dave’s. Their instructor was Pauly and he was AMAZING! They had so much fun and I got to hang out in the water near them to take photos.

Great times! - Instructor Alex was attentive and made sure you got to take off surfing. I didn't made it the first few tries but after that, it was great being able to stand up facing the horizon!
