A Dive into the Depths of Tenerife
The Canary Islands have always been a beacon for those seeking a blend of sun, sea, and adventure. As a marine biologist, the allure of Tenerife’s underwater world was irresistible. Arriving in Oasis del Sur, the anticipation was palpable. The promise of exploring the depths of Las Eras, with its rich tapestry of marine life, was enough to set my heart racing.
The Underwater Symphony
The morning of the dive was crisp and clear, the sun casting a golden hue over the waters. We set off from the diving center at 9 am, the excitement in the air was infectious. As we reached Las Eras, the dive site, I was immediately struck by the clarity of the water. The first dive was a revelation. Schools of barracuda danced around us, their silvery bodies glinting in the sunlight. Trumpet fish weaved gracefully through the water, while a sleeping stingray lay nestled in the sand below. Each moment was a reminder of the ocean’s wonders, a testament to the beauty that lies beneath the surface.
The highlight, however, was the sea horse. Nestled among the seaweed, it was a delicate marvel, a symbol of the ocean’s fragility and resilience. The dive lasted 56 minutes, each second a treasure. As we ascended, the challenge of drinking cava at the safety stop added a touch of whimsy to the experience. Roberta, our guide, explained the technique with a twinkle in her eye, and while it was a fun challenge, I must admit, it’s much easier on land!

Completing my 200th dive at Las Eras was a milestone I will cherish forever.
