Wonderful small group tour - Paul is a wonderful guide. Great to do early single tour so you are there before the crowds arrive. We were a group of five. Paul lets us grab a coffee and pastry at the meeting spot before the 7:30 am tour starts. The falls ascend and descend are a bit steep but doable. There are stone stairs so that makes it easier and Paul provides walking sticks. After the climb there is time to swim in the pools though they are a bit cool. There are change rooms available. After the swim Paul takes you to a local food stall that prepares a delicious lunch. We returned to the city by 2pm

Unforgettable experience! - Excellent tour of the majestic Hierve el Agua. Early start ensures minimal crowd and a pool to yourself; it’s still warm/sunny. Includes comfortable 1.5 hour ride (each way) there with Paul (excellent driver) and other guests (solo, couple) and entrance fee to nature reserve. Local guide will join you to hike and discuss flora. Wear sturdy shoes and hat. Bring water and small towel if you’re swimming. Don’t forget to tip!

Small group tour - We had a wonderful day with Paul. The pick up is at 7:30 am so Paul allowed us to grab a coffee and sweet bread from near by cafe before starting the tour. The drive is comfortable we were 5 in the group. Paul guided us on the path down to the base of the falls and up again. The path down and back up involves climbing rock stairs so is a bit steep but manageable. Paul provided walking sticks. Paul also has a local guide accompanying the hike who explains facts about the local plants. The views are amazing. Once back up top you are given time to swim in the pools which are a bit cool. There is a free change room available and a pay toilet. Before returning Paul guided us to a small food stall that served us a wonderful Oaxaca Food at a reasonable price.

Thank you, Paul! - I highly recommend this tour. Paul is kind and communicative and knowledgeable. The drive was quick and comfortable, the hike was slow and enjoyable, and there was a good amount of time to swim and enjoy the pools. Lunch was delicious and Paul was attentive to our dietary restrictions. Only shortfall was that we didn’t get the local guide at the start but Paul still gave us a good tour and history of Hierve el Agua.
A word of caution: book with enough time in advance to message the tour operator and confirm the group size. My small group tour ended up being 14 people (12 guests, driver and tour operator) and we were all confused but hopefully the issue with the booking limit has been resolved now!

Fantastic half day trip - Really great guided hike with insight into the local plants. It's quite steep but not horrendous. David was a great guide and really supportive when I needed to take extra time to walk back up. Cooling off in the pools at the end was a great way to close out the hike (don't be tricked into thinking it's warm though!). Going early makes a huge difference to the crowds, so this is a great choice for a more relaxed experience.

Excellent small group tour—with a great guide - We had a fantastic experience with our Hierve el Agua tour. Paul was kind, timely, professional and made the trip very fun! We shared the tour with a small group of four — just us and another family — which made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal.
We were expecting a simple hike up to the pools to swim, but it turned out to be much more meaningful. Instead of just driving to the top, our guide led us on a beautiful hike down to the base, joined by a local villager who showed us native plants, shared their scents and uses, and talked about the history of the cliff formations and daily life in the surrounding community.
Afterwards we had plenty of time to swim followed by a delicious lunch at one of the many local food stalls.
It felt authentic and gave us a deeper connection to the are and community beyond just the photos. The timing was also perfect — leaving early meant we enjoyed the site peacefully before the crowds arrived in the afternoon. A thoughtful, well-paced, and genuinely memorable tour. 10/10 recommend!
