Oaxaca vivo: Tapetes , Alebrijes, Monte Alban and more! - Our recent trip to Oaxaca was unforgettable, and a huge part of that was the private tour we took with Juan Reyes Jr. From start to finish, Juan made the experience personal, educational, and incredibly enjoyable. Our day began with a visit to Monte Albán, where Juan shared fascinating insights about the ancient Zapotec civilization and the history behind the ruins. Walking through such an important archaeological site was already impressive, but Juan’s explanations really brought the place to life. We also explored Oaxaca’s rich artisan traditions. One stop took us to a family workshop where we learned about traditional textile weaving and natural dyes. Seeing the process up close and meeting the artisans who keep these traditions alive was a highlight of the trip. Another memorable stop was El Árbol del Tule. The massive tree is truly astonishing in person, and Juan gave us background on its cultural and historical significance to the local community. Of course, no trip to Oaxaca would be complete without mezcal. Juan brought us to a mezcal producer where we learned how this iconic spirit is made—from harvesting the agave to the distillation process—and enjoyed tasting several varieties. We also visited artisans who create the famous alebrijes, the colorful hand-carved wooden figures Oaxaca is known for. Watching the carving and painting process gave us a new appreciation for the detail and skill behind each piece. Throughout the day, Juan was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing Oaxaca’s culture. His connections with local families and artisans made the tour feel authentic and special rather than rushed or touristy. If you’re visiting Oaxaca and want a meaningful way to explore the region’s history, culture, and traditions, we highly recommend taking a private tour with Juan Reyes Jr. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you Jr.!!

An experience I would definitely repeat again!!! - From the very first moment we knew that we had made the best decision when choosing this tour. Monte Albán was simply spectacular; not only for the majesty of the site, but for the clear and passionate way in which they explained every historical detail. Walking among those ruins with a well-grounded guide totally changes the experience. In Teotitlán del Valle we discover the true art behind the woollen mats. Seeing how they get the colors with natural dyes and understanding the symbolism of the designs made us value much more the artisan work. The palenque de mezcal was an authentic and fun experience. We learned mostly the traditional process and enjoyed a very well explained tasting, really understanding what we were trying. Finishing at the Tule Tree was the perfect closure to a day full of culture, history and tradition. The tour was perfectly organized, the treatment was professional and warm, and at all times we felt accompanied and well taken care of. It is certainly the best way to get to know Oaxaca deeply and authentically. We'd do it again without thinking.

Exceptional Tour Guide - Junior arrived promptly at our Airbnb in a spotless, comfortable vehicle, immediately setting a professional tone for the day. Throughout our excursion, he demonstrated an impressive depth of knowledge about the sites we visited, along with a strong understanding of Mexico’s archaeological heritage and the importance of its preservation. He was exceptionally attentive, anticipating our needs and thoughtfully handling small details — even providing coins for restroom access when we had none. We especially appreciated his excellent recommendations for dining, drinks, and shopping, guiding us to authentic local spots far from the typical tour bus routes. Junior remained flexible and accommodating throughout the journey, and his quick wit and warm sense of humor added a delightful energy to the entire experience. He truly made our adventure both seamless and memorable.

Oaxaca at its finest? - An amazing experience in Oaxaca. Since we arrived in Monte Albán, the explanation of Junior Reyes was very interesting and helped us understand the history and importance of the place. The views are stunning and really worth touring with someone who knows the site well. Then we visited the wool mat workshop in Teotitlán del Valle, where we learned about natural dyes and the artisan process; it was very authentic and special to know the work behind each piece. Palenque de mezcal was another highlight: knowing the traditional process and trying different mezcals made the experience complete and very enriching. Closing the tour at the Tule Tree was perfect, it is awesome to see in person. Everything was very well organized, the treatment was excellent and the tour exceeded our expectations. Fully recommended if you want to live Oaxaca in an authentic way.

Monte Alban, Tapetes, Alebrijes, Mescal and more with Junior Reyes - It was a perfect day tour. Small group, great guide, and beautiful sights. Junior was very friendly and knowledgeable about Mexican History, weaving, culture and more. We got wonderful presentations from a sweet generational weaving family and a mescal maker. It was all more in depth than I expected and we felt relaxed and unhurried. There was even some time to wander and take in the magnificent Monte Alban.

We were in awe at Monte Alban and El Tule, and the intricate artistry and details put into the Alebrijes/ textiles, and ending the tour relaxing with Mezcal and Oaxaca helados. It was a great well rounded trip to explore Oaxaca! Highly recommend this tour with Juan, he is a great guide, enthusiastic about sharing the regions history, and made sure we felt confortable through our the trip.
