The tour will guide participants through the historic downtown area known as Old Towne, where Victorian-style architecture and century-old businesses narrate the fascinating tale of the “Petticoat Regime”—the trailblazing women who managed 30 out of 32 hotels by 1926. The journey begins at the Ocean City Life-Saving Museum near the inlet, proceeding north along the Boardwalk and Baltimore Avenue, and concludes at the renowned Thrasher’s French Fries stand. Participants will hear stories of extraordinary businesswomen like Zipporah “Zippy” Lewis, who resided in a house constructed from shipwreck wood and bequeathed her land to her daughters rather than her sons, and Ella Phillips Dennis, who, along with other women, established one of America’s most successful female-led business communities during a time when women were not even permitted to vote.
