- Archaeological Park Ollantaytambo - Begin the day with a pick-up at 8:00 am from your hotel in Ollantaytambo, or at 7:00 am from Cusco with private transportation. Explore the Inca ruins in Ollantaytambo, once the residence of the Inca emperor Pachacutec and later a strategic military checkpoint for the Incas defending the routes to Machu Picchu from Spanish invaders. Enjoy a guided tour of the terraced ruins, fountains, and aqueducts, and observe the storage houses used by the Incas to harness the wind for cooling and preserving crops. There will be time to stroll through one of Peru’s oldest towns, where many 15th-century Inca structures still stand.
- Sacred Valley - Next, a 20-minute drive will take you to the town of Yanahuara, where you will visit a farm in the Sacred Valley. Tour the farmland, cut alfalfa to feed guinea pigs, and witness the traditional process of making chicha. This visit is followed by a private gourmet picnic lunch prepared by our chef, featuring local organic produce, including some from our own crops. Enjoy a relaxed outdoor lunch with views of the Sacred Valley. Afterward, visit the authentic non-tourist market in Urubamba, where local families sell fruits, vegetables, flowers, and natural medicinal plants. Your guide will provide a market tour, allowing you to taste Peruvian fruits and foods such as passion fruit, lucuma, and chirimoya. Learn about the ingredients used to make chicha, a corn beer integral to Peruvian culture since Inca times.
- Pisac - Then, travel one hour to the majestic ruins at Pisac, where you will explore terraced Inca ruins perched high on a mountain. Climb to the top for breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley. Your guide will explain the site’s religious, astronomical, and military significance and show you the terraces that enabled the Incas to cultivate food above 11,000 feet. After visiting the Inca ruins, there is an opportunity to hike on a little-known, seldom-used original Inca trail and through a tunnel built by the Incas. One of the largest Inca cemeteries is also located at the Pisac ruins, and you can tour this part of the site as well.
Conclude the tour with a visit to the Pisac handicraft market in town to browse items such as ceramics, jewelry, and weaving. Return to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley via private transport.
