Oran - Welcome to Oran! Upon arrival by plane, based on your arrival time and flight number, you will be warmly greeted at the airport. During the journey to your hotel, there will be a debriefing session, after which you will be dropped off to relax and enjoy some personal time.

Sidi El Houari

Place du 1er Novembre - You will be picked up at 9 am. Feel free to leave your belongings with the hotel concierge before heading to our first destination. Place d’Armes, formerly known as Place Foch, is a central meeting point and one of Oran’s most significant locations. It connects the old town with the new and is surrounded by architecturally remarkable buildings such as the town hall and the regional theatre.

In the center stands a pyramidal stele erected by France in 1898 to commemorate a battle lost against Emir Abdelkader’s troops at the marabout of Sidi Brahim on September 23, 1845. It is topped by a bronze statue of winged glory honoring the heroes and adorned at its base by the bust of Emir Abdelkader, concealing the names of the French soldiers who perished in the battle.

Dar el-Bahia - Constructed in 1886, this building, with its eclectic architectural style and prominent location, is one of Oran’s most majestic monuments. The imposing façade of the Oran City Hall is flanked by two bronze lions sculpted by French animal artist Auguste Cain in 1888.

These bronze lions serve as a reminder of various Oranese legends linking the city’s name to this animal.

Le Theatre d’Oran - Built in 1908 by architect Inez, the Opera showcases the elegance of Italian Renaissance architecture. It is now known as the Regional Theater of Oran Abdelkader Alloula, in tribute to the great Oran playwright.

Fort de Rozalcazar - Several chronicles suggest that Rosalcazar is a mistranslation of the Spanish words (rojas and casas): red house. Formerly called Ras el Kacer, Bordj el Ahmar, Rosal-Cazar, or the new castle, it is a fortification built around the 16th century by the Spaniards to strengthen the defensive system left by the Merinids, to protect the city from enemies. This fortified castle overlooks the port and once had a drawbridge. Above its front door is a Spanish inscription from 1760 and a Turkish one from 1792.

Qasr el-Bey - After the departure of the Spaniards in 1792, the Bey of Oran, Mohamed el Kebir, built his palace on the southeastern tip of ROSALCAZAR. The interior is divided into three parts: the diwan, the residence, and the Pavilion of the Favorite (where the Bey of Oran would rest next to his chosen woman), visible from Rue de Philippe. A garden separated the Bey’s palace from the Pavilion of the Favorite. The palace featured lush gardens surrounding his residence, harem, diwan, and private baths. During French colonization, it served as the residence of the General Commandant of the Oran division, yet the apartments retained their Moorish style.

Pacha Mosque - Listed as a historical monument on 08/06/1952, this mosque is a remnant of the Ottoman presence in the region. It was built between 1792 and 1796 by Bey Mohamed El Kebir. The mosque features a domed structure on a square plan, with a finely decorated octagonal minaret reflecting Maghrebi architecture.

Bey’s Palace - During the promenade de l’étang, you will encounter a variety of rare tree species in the garden and enjoy a panoramic view of Oran’s port and city. It’s a lovely spot to rest and continue the tour.

Fort Santa Cruz - Crowning the Aidour massif, Fort Santa Cruz is an iconic site in Oran. Initially, the indigenous people were displaced. Governor D’Alvares de Bazan y Sylva, Marquis of Santa Cruz, constructed the fort in the 16th century. The fort was completely rebuilt and finished in 1738 under Jose Vallejo after the assault by Bey Bouchlaghem.

Chapelle de Santa Cruz - Typically, the Oran trip concludes here, but if you have the energy, you can visit “Oran Arena” and “Résidence Yves Saint Laurent Oran.” Notre Dame du Salut, also known as the Sainte Croix, is characterized by the statue of the Virgin Mary, initially built in 1850 on the heights of Mount Murdjajou following the infamous cholera epidemic, and then in 1851 after the vault’s collapse.

Oran Arena - Usually, the Oran trip ends at Santa Cruz, but if you are still energetic, you can visit “Oran Arena” and “Résidence Yves Saint Laurent Oran.” At the arena, you will admire the beautiful architecture of one of the oldest arenas built by Spain in Oran, with a local guide sharing the arena’s history and construction methods.

Oran Sea Front - At the end of today’s tour, enjoy a leisurely walk. You can choose to have a traditional dinner or return to the hotel for a meal. We will meet again in the morning to take you to the airport for your flight.

Tlemcen

Les Grottes de Beni Add - In the morning, we will travel from Oran to Tlemcen, either via the countryside or the highway, depending on the weather and time. Our first stop will be The Caves of Beni Add, located approximately 17KM from Tlemcen on the heights of the commune of Ain Fezza. It is one of the world’s most significant natural museums, stretching over 700 m, with a depth reaching 57 m. Its volcanic walls conceal numerous secrets, with limestone formations creating stalactites and stalagmites of the most varied and beautiful shapes.

El Mansourah - After lunch, we will visit the minaret of El Mansourah. Located in Tlemcen, the ruins of Mansourah represent an ancient city known in the 13th-14th centuries as El Mahala El Mansourah, meaning “the Victorious Camp.” At that time, the Sultan of Fez, who came to besiege Tlemcen, established a military camp on this site, which gradually transformed into a real city with the construction of a mosque, a palace, and a hospital, all defended by a wall. Only ruins remain from this period… The famous ruins of Mansourah!

Citadelle et Palais El Mechouar - We will conclude our trip by visiting the castle of El Mechouar in the heart of the city. It is a royal Zianid palace complex located in Tlemcen, Algeria, built in the Middle Ages by the Zianid sultans in 12483. The Mechouar complex exemplifies Moorish and Andalusian art, particularly the Zianid style.
