Great experience with younger kids! - We had a great experience with younger kids. This was one of the very few places I could find that would allow our almost 4yo to actually ride with the family, and I’m glad they were open. I wasn’t sure we would be able to fit it in so I hadn’t booked ahead, but Magnus let us book the same day and personalize the experience to a one hour ride at a time of our choice in the evening since no one else was booked. They let us pet the ponies in the stable for a bit while they got set up. My husband and I rode holding our younger two kids and our older son was on his own pony. Magnus and his friend walked and led our two ponies the entire time down into a nearby old quarry area so that the horses were very controlled while we had the kids, stopped and took photos for us, and checked frequently that we were all comfortable with the ride. Then invited us up for coffee and cookies and some chatting at the end! My kids loved the experience.

Frábær reiðtúr og reynsla. - Æðisleg reynsla og frábær reiðtúr. Magnús tók vel á móti okkur og eftir túrinn fengum við gott kaffi og kleinur. Stoppuðum í gott spjall og ætlum að koma aftur. Awesome experience and great riding. Magnús welcomed us warmly and after the ride we had good coffee and donuts. We stopped for a good chat and we plan to come back

Amazing Horse Rental Experience! - I had an incredible experience renting a horse from Alhestar - horse rental. The staff was friendly, professional, and made sure I was matched with the perfect horse for my skill level. The horses were well cared for, healthy, and well-trained, making the ride smooth and enjoyable. The trails were breathtaking, with beautiful scenery and well-planned routes for both beginners and experienced riders. I also appreciated how much the staff genuinely cared for their horses, which made the experience even better. Whether you're a first-time rider or an experienced equestrian, I highly recommend this place. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Family tour - Booked the 2 hour family trip. The guide was nice and the horses were friendly and in very good condition. The ride went on in the local area. We were a mix of experienced and unexperienced riders. Although we paid for a two hour ride it was shorten down to just one hour and additional 20 minutes to prepare the horses. The guide explained this was due to safety reasons because of unexperienced riders. There was no information about this at their home page. We got only half of what we paid for, I feel a bit scammed. I recommend this place only for experienced riders.

Not quite as advertised - Long (45 min) but scenic ride to the farm where the horses were saddled and ready to go. We rode for about an hour through lava fields on a cold windy day but didn’t see much else except for a salmon processing plant and some construction. Magnus, the owner, was very nice but doesn’t speak English, so communication was difficult. And, after arriving at the farm, we were told there would be an additional, $75 charge for transportation to and from our cruise ship in Reykjavik. This was totally unanticipated and not described on the Viator website. Thankfully, we had our credit cards and were able to get the money at a local cash machine; otherwise getting back to the ship may have been problematic! Not cool.

I had this tour... - I booked this tour because I really wanted to ride on Iceland and this tour sounded pretty good. So I planned my trip especially to stay in þorlakshöfn for a few days. I arrived there the day before my horseback riding tour and because my ticket didn’t show a time, I went to the meeting point the afternoon before. When I found an Icelander at a stable and approached him, I was told that this stable hadn’t been around for a few months and there would definitely be no riding tour here. I was also shown the stable of Alhestar riding tours and the stable also sat out a bit depraved. In addition, there were no more horses on the premises of the stable. I then tried to get in touch with Viator. After I finally made it, I was only told on a PAID PHONE call to customer service that the Enterprise still existed and I should contact them. Fortunately, a refund was also initiated. The current state is that I have NOT been on a RIDING TOUR and I HAVE NOT YET RETURNED my MONEY. I hope I still get my money back!!

The tour was canceled by... - The tour was canceled by the tour operator less than 24 hours before the event. Didn’t leave me much time to book anything else while we were in Port that day. The tour guide said he requested a refund for me. I have not seen it yet.

DO NOT BOOK - I am extremely disappointed with our experience at this horseback riding place. We made our reservation several weeks in advance and received a booking confirmation, so we were excited for the day. However, when we arrived at the location, there was no one there. We called multiple times, but the line kept hanging up on us. We thought we might be at the wrong spot due to the confusing directions on their website, so we waited around for 20 minutes past our reservation time. Finally, we received a call from someone telling us that no one could do the tour and they did not contact us earlier because they didn’t speak English. This was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. We were really looking forward to this experience, and to be left hanging without any communication or heads-up was completely unacceptable. Definitely would not recommend this place.
