Visitors will journey through history, descending nearly 20 meters below street level, embarking on a trip back in time. At the deepest level of the caves, you can marvel at a riverbed containing a petrified plant fossil dating back approximately 250,000 years.
This fossil was likely transported by lava from the eruption of the ancient volcano that now forms the famous Bolsena Lake.
The discovery by Rita and Adriano has become one of the most significant and cherished historical records of Orvieto’s heritage and archaeology.
