After the main course, you’ll get to whisk green tea (Matcha) and enjoy Taiyaki, a popular fish-shaped street waffle.
Learn how to make miso soup from scratch.
The main courses of the day are takoyaki and okonomiyaki, two iconic dishes from Osaka, which is celebrated as Japan’s food capital. While preparing takoyaki—fried balls of wheat flour batter encasing a tender piece of octopus—you’ll learn how to cut the octopus to the right size and master the timing for rotating the batter in the special ball-shaped pan. Next, you’ll make okonomiyaki, a hearty and savory pancake usually made with cabbage, flour, egg, pork belly slices, and dried bonito flakes.

Super experience! - The evening we spent with Yayo and her friend Kimi (?) was delightful! It was great to be inside a Japanese home learning to prepare real Japanese foods. The class size of 5 was just right, the foods were varied and delicious, and the take away and gifts were beautifully personal and thoughtful! Most grateful!

Great cooking class with Yayo! - Yayo's cooking class was great! We learned how to make miso soup, Japanese omelet and okonomiyaki. Everything was delicious and Yayo was very welcoming. Highly recommend!

Osaka Family Cooking Class + Dinner ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - An authentic first hand cooking class to learn how to cook Osaka’s famous foods. This was excellent and a highlight of our trip! We made dinner and took home the recipes. Will be making these again when we return home, for years to come! We learned about the history of the recipes/ingredients, and got all the tips to make successfully on our own. Our teen enjoyed the class very much as well.

Top class experience - What a wonderful way to try many dishes, my hostess was a 11/10 and invited me into her home. I think this is in my top 2 cooking experiences on vacation (and I have had cooking classes in Italy, Ireland, France, Peru and Mexico). Thank you again!

Cooking with Yayo is the best Osaka Experience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cooking Class YAYO in Osaka was the highlight of my trip to Japan. Yayo welcomed me into her home to cook okonomiyaki, miso soup, dashimaki tamago, and taiyaki, and even gifted me Sakura chopsticks after the class — truly the sweetest host and the best cooking class I’ve ever taken.

AUTHENTIC OSAKA TRADITION! The most heart warming Cooking Class I have ever taken. Highly recommend. - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was truly one of the best cooking classes I’ve ever taken.
Yayo welcomed me into her traditional home in Osaka for a private cooking experience, and it ended up being one of the most memorable moments of my entire visit. From the moment we met, she was warm, kind, and incredibly welcoming. She even stood outside in the rain waiting for me at the train station so I wouldn’t get lost finding her home.
During the class we prepared several traditional Japanese dishes including miso soup (味噌汁), okonomiyaki (お好み焼き), dashimaki tamago (だし巻き卵 – rolled dashi omelet), and taiyaki (たい焼き). Yayo explained each ingredient and technique in a way that was easy to understand, and her English was excellent.
What made the experience even more special was her hospitality and generosity. At the end of the class she gifted me beautiful Sakura chopsticks and a chopstick holder, which was such a thoughtful gesture and a wonderful memory to bring home from Japan.
Yayo is truly the sweetest host, and this was hands down the best cooking class I have ever taken. She made my visit to Osaka truly memorable.
I highly recommend taking a class with her if you want to learn authentic Japanese home cooking and experience genuine Japanese hospitality.
