- Senso-ji Temple - Senso-ji Temple holds the title of Tokyo’s oldest temple. The name Asakusa first appeared in Japanese history in 628 when two fishermen in Asakusa discovered a small statue of Kannon. The villagers, unaware of its origins, constructed a small temple for the statue. Since 645, the statue has been kept hidden in a sealed wooden box, following the advice of a Buddhist monk from Nara. The box was opened once in 1868 by government officials executing orders to separate Shinto and Buddhism. The temple enjoyed continuous support from influential samurai and became the Tokugawa shogun family’s temple in the early 17th century. Most temple buildings were destroyed during World War II, but the main building was rebuilt in 1958, and the five-story pagoda in 1973.
- Tsukiji Fish Market - Although the main Tsukiji Market was replaced by the Toyosu Market in 2018, the outer market at Tsukiji still exists. It features a variety of restaurants and shops offering numerous intriguing items. (Some shops and restaurants are closed on Sundays, Wednesdays, and national holidays.)
- Ginza - Ginza boasts eclectic boutiques and galleries, shops selling traditional Japanese crafts, an incredible selection of restaurants, and cutting-edge architecture.
- Imperial Palace - The Imperial Palace was once the castle of the Tokugawa shogun family from 1603 to 1868. It became the Imperial Palace when political power was restored to Emperor Meiji. The palace grounds feature beautifully manicured pine trees and lawns, which can be admired from a car. Visitors can also take a short walk to view the palace walls and bridges.
- National Diet Building - The National Diet (Parliament) building is one of the few structures in Tokyo that survived the 1945 air raids. It was constructed in 1936.
- Omotesando - Omotesando is home to various buildings designed by the world’s leading architects. It also hosts every famous brand name in fashion.
- Takeshita Street - Harajuku offers insight into Japan’s youth culture, showcasing unique fashion trends and bold designs in both fashion and architecture.
- Meiji Jingu Shrine - Meiji Shrine provides a serene atmosphere and a pleasant escape from the bustling streets. Visitors might witness a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Shibuya Crossing - Shibuya Crossing is the busiest intersection in the world, making Times Square seem like a quiet village.
