As a native Berber, I strongly suggest tourists to visit the Atlas Mountains to escape the noise and rush of city life to a wonderful atmosphere filled with affection and warmth.

Personal, professional, once in a lifetime - My friends and I booked the 3 night, 4 day desert excursions with private charter and it had to be the most comfortable and informative way to go about this adventure. Our driver/tour guide was Abderrazak, he was by far the best part of this experience. Abde made sure every one of us felt comfortable, safe, and never made us feel that we were asking for too much when we needed to stop and stretch/use the restroom. He walked us through the history of the different regions we were traveling through, gave us the option to stop and tour small towns, stop to take pictures as the topography / geography changed around us, took us to museums, and always had fantastic restaurants in mind along the way. Abde hiked up with our group to be able to get our group pictures, let us play whatever music we wanted, and stayed with is throughout the entire trip as we made it to the desert and out to Fes. Abdes professionalism is top tier, he certainly went above and beyond anything we had expected. THANK YOU Abde!
We started the tour in Marrakech, from there we drove for about 6 hours to our first night which was hotel in the Atlas Mountains. We arrived here pretty late and because it was January, it was also pretty cold so make sure you bring layers!
We had a great dinner and breakfast and continued on our way the next morning, driving for about 5 hours to the Sahara. Before arriving in the desert, we stopped and toured a nomad village in the Atlas Mountains and got an introduction to the Berber people, customs, and food. We were shown how artisan Moroccan rugs are made.
When we arrived in the Sahara, our charter was transferred to a desert truck where we drove into the camp site.
Because it was January, we were lucky to be one of the only groups on the camp. This gave us a sense of peace , privacy and a great attention to detail by all of the staff on the site.
We rode dormidarios, stargazed, 4-wheeled, toured local attractions, sang and danced traditional music…overall it was an incredible experience, I fully recommend this excursion.
The drive out of the desert to Fes is pretty long, we slept most of the way which we felt comfortable doing because we had such an amazing driver! Overall, I’d say this excursion is totally worth it!
(You can and will find cheaper prices rugs in Marrakech or Fes. The rugs are all clearly hand made with natural fibers by the women in the villages so if you’re looking to purchase an authentic Moroccan rug to take home, consider the experience, fibers, craftsmanship as part of the price from the nomad village-I did not try to negotiate the price down so perhaps give that a shot if you want to purchase from the village rather than the shops in larger cities.)

Atlas Mountains - An excellent trip, Amin the driver was friendly, informative and spoke good English. The one downside of the day was that, until Amin informed us, we were not aware of hazardous walk to the waterfall. Apart from that, well worth doing.
