If the tour schedule allows, visit St John’s College, especially the Canterbury Quad, Oxford’s first classical quadrangle, built by its most famous student, William Laud. Laud became Chancellor of the University of Oxford, and his religious policies in the 1630s contributed to the British Civil Wars. It’s usually possible to visit the front quadrangle, the chapel where Laud was buried, and the beautiful college gardens.
