Interesting Farms in the Palmer Area - My husband and I were visiting friends in Anchorage, and she offered to organize this farm tour for us. We have been involved in farming and ranching for many years and were interested in knowing what it was like in Alaska. Our tour guide was very accommodating, choosing farms we would be interested in. One was an Elk farm. The host showed us his set up. We even got to see some of the Elk and the chickens and turkeys he also raised. Next was a vegetable farm called Moon Stone. It was interesting to learn the history of the beautifully groomed place and how they marketed their produce. Here we got to relax with a drink and snack to satisfy our hunger. Our last farm was another vegetable farm that hauled their produce to a farmer's market for the locals to purchase some freshly grown veggies that are not easily accessible in Alaska. We learned a little history of why farming became so important to Palmer years ago. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the area and showed us some of the old buildings in Palmer that were part of the original settlement of farmers. We even got to stop at a farmer's market to see all the goodies they had for sale. I would definitely recommend booking any of the tours this company has to offer. The farm tour was awesome! Thanks Kierre!
