- SSR Botanic Garden - As the largest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden boasts over 650 plant species and 85 varieties of palm trees from around the globe, some planted by royalty and notable world leaders. Visitors can also explore a spice garden and should not miss the giant water lilies pond.
Originally named after the former Prime Minister Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam, and affectionately called Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens by locals, it began as a private garden for the French governor nearly 300 years ago. Encounter giant tortoises and other wildlife while enjoying the tranquility of nature.
- L’Aventure Du Sucre - Just a short drive from the gardens is L’Aventure du Sucre, one of the island’s remaining sugar factories. Although it ceased operations in 1999, much of the machinery remains intact, making it a must-see.
The approach is stunning, with an avenue lined with bougainvillea and coconut palms, a lake surrounded by lush greenery, leading to the picturesque sugar factory. A sugarcane hedge borders the final path to the restored and converted factory. Visitors can explore the beautiful interior, marvel at the old machines adorned with lights, giant screens, over 35 films, a floating barge, and the sudden whistle of a railway engine. Their engaging tour offers a deeper understanding of the island’s rich history and culture. Visitors can also sample unrefined sugars and treat themselves to pure cane rum!
- Chateau De Labourdonnais - Visit the enchanting Chateau De Labourdonnais, nestled in the island’s north. This well-preserved home, built in 1856, hosted over three generations until 2006, when Domaine de Labourdonnais restored it to become an official estate and attraction.
- Mont Choisy Beach - Savor an authentic Mauritian lunch on Mont Choisy Beach.
Our chauffeur will recommend some of the best restaurants serving traditional Mauritian cuisine. Lunch is on us!
- Plage de Trou aux Biches - Relax and unwind as you soak up the sun and swim in the turquoise waters of Trou Aux Biches / Mont Choisy Beach.
- La Croisette - Stop and shop for clothing and souvenirs at Grand Baie La Croisette Shopping Mall.
- Grand Baie - Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the vibrant town of Grand Bay and indulge in shopping, with numerous small arcades and malls offering a variety of items, including cashmere garments, branded clothing, jewelry, and souvenirs. Many shops offer duty-free shopping, so remember to bring your passport.
- Notre Dame Auxiliatrice - The views from Notre Dame Auxiliatrice, also known as ‘Cap Malheureux Red Church,’ are breathtaking. The red-roofed church sits on Cap Malheureux Beach and is attributed to various sources. Some say it was named after the sinking of the vessel Saint Geran on August 18, 1744, which inspired Bernardin de St Pierre’s famous novel Paul & Virginie. Others believe it owes its name to the numerous shipwrecks that occurred in this area during the island’s early colonization.
Experience the stunning surroundings where local fishermen can be seen catching fresh meals.
- Cap Malheureux - Capture the magnificent view of Coin De Mire from Cap Malheureux Beach. Rising from the sea to create a paradisiacal view at the island’s northern tip, Coin de Mire is one of the island’s top sightseeing spots.
