Priene & Miletos & Didyma Tour
Didim - The program begins with a visit to the Ancient City of Priene, located on Mount Mycale (Samsun), which boasts many renowned examples of Hellenistic art and architecture. It was one of the 12 Ionian cities settled on the western coast of Anatolia. Although the original location of the city remains undiscovered, it was likely a peninsula with two harbors.
The next stop is the Ancient City of Miletos, once home to famous philosophers such as Thales, Anaximander, and Anaximenes, all known for their work on nature and the universe. The historian and geographer Hekataios, who first used the word “history” in its modern sense, and Isidorus, one of the designers of the Hagia Sophia, also hailed from here. After visiting Miletos, the tour proceeds to Didyma to see the impressive ruins of the Temple of Apollo. Visitors will be awed by the massive columns of this magnificent temple dedicated to the Greek god Apollo, the twin brother of the Greek goddess Artemis. Didyma means “twin” and refers to the twins Apollo and Artemis, born to Zeus and Leto.
After the tour, guests will be driven back to their hotel or port.
Ephesus Tour
Ephesus Museum - The first stop is The House of Virgin Mary, located on a mountain believed to be where she lived and spent her final years, near the Ancient City of Ephesus, where St. John the Apostle lived and passed away.
Next, the tour visits the Ancient City of Ephesus, inhabited since the end of the Bronze Age. The city’s location changed due to the silting of the Cayster River and various rulers. The ancient city visited today is the third location of Ephesus from the 3rd century BC. With a guide, visitors will see numerous impressive monumental structures in this Greco-Roman city, starting from the Gate of Magnesia. Highlights include the Agoras, including the Commercial Agora, Roman Baths, Basilica, Odeon (Bouleuterion), Domitian Square with more ruins, Nike Relief, Gate of Heracles, the three main colonnaded streets of Ephesus, Marble Street, Trajan Fountain, Temple of Hadrian, Latrines (ancient public toilets), Terrace Houses (from outside), Library of Celsus, Grand Theatre, Gymnasium, and more.
After completing the tour, guests will be driven back to their hotel or port.
