Hierapolis, or the ‘Sacred City’, was an ancient city established on thermal springs in the classical Phrygia region of southwest Anatolia. This region also houses Philip the Apostle’s Tomb.

A vast necropolis full of sarcophagi is sighted here. Massive stone blocks were used to build the great baths. The inner section features deep niches including the bathhouse, library, and gymnasium.

The site was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988
