Once everyone is ready, we will explore the vibrant Panama City, delving into its rich history, iconic landmarks, and the fascinating story of the Panama Canal.
Prepare for an exciting and seamless day ahead!
- Miraflores Visitor Center - Welcome to the most iconic stop of your day!
This is where the Panama Canal comes to life — a place where massive ships glide through the locks in a breathtaking display of engineering genius.
We aim to visit the Canal early in the day, as ship transits through the locks are more likely to occur before 9:00 am.
While we cannot guarantee a ship-in-transit at the exact moment of your visit — as transit schedules are managed by the Canal Authority and may change without notice — we will do everything possible to give you the best chance to witness this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
No matter the timing, the experience is always inspiring. Get ready to stand in front of one of the world’s greatest engineering wonders!
- Panama Canal Administration Building - Rising atop Balboa Hill, the Panama Canal Administration Building stands as a monumental symbol of engineering leadership and historic transition. Built in 1914, this neoclassical structure served as the strategic nerve center for canal operations during the American administration. Surrounded by manicured gardens and lined with palm trees along El Prado, the building reflects the architectural elegance of the early 20th-century Canal Zone.
Inside, stunning murals narrate the construction of the canal and the labor of thousands who made it possible. Outside, it becomes a powerful stop along our Canal Zone Legacy Walk, as we reflect on the growing tensions that led to the events of January 9, 1964. Just steps away, the Eternal Flame and nearby monuments honor Panama’s path toward sovereignty.
This isn’t just a photo stop — it’s a place where history speaks, pride rises, and the spirit of a nation echoes across generations.
- Goethals Monument - At our stop in front of the Panama Canal Administration Building and the Goethals Monument, you’ll be transported back to the rich history of the canal’s construction and the visionaries behind it.
The striking architecture of the administration building, coupled with the tribute to Major George W. Goethals, the chief engineer of the canal, creates a fascinating backdrop for stories of innovation and perseverance. However, please note that this stop is sensitive to traffic conditions.
Our guide may decide to skip this stop if they believe it could disrupt our itinerary. Your understanding is appreciated as we navigate the best path for our adventure!
- President Roberto F. Chiari Library - Located at the heart of the former Canal Zone, the President Roberto F. Chiari Library is more than a cultural space — it is a sacred landmark in Panama’s struggle for sovereignty. In front of the building stands the Monument to the Martyrs of January 9, 1964, where the Eternal Flame burns as a lasting tribute to the Panamanian students who gave their lives demanding the right to raise the national flag in the Canal Zone.
This solemn site marks the final stop on our Canal Zone Legacy Walk, where reflection replaces narration and emotion speaks louder than words. Surrounded by peaceful greenery and historic architecture, the monument invites every visitor to honor the courage, sacrifice, and unity of a generation that forever changed Panama’s destiny.
It is not only a stop on the tour — it is a moment of remembrance. A flame that never goes out, lighting the path from foreign control to national dignity.
- Casco Viejo - Get ready to step back in time at the enchanting Casco Viejo of Panama!
This vibrant neighborhood is the second most significant stop on our tour, right after the iconic Panama Canal. As you stroll through its cobblestone streets, you’ll be captivated by the rich history and the stunning fusion of architectural styles that tell the tale of Panama’s past.
Marvel at the breathtaking Catedral Basílica Santa María La Antigua, the first cathedral in the Americas, with its majestic presence.
Don’t miss the Arco Chato, a unique arch that adds to the charm, and be sure to take a moment in La Plaza de Francia, where history and culture come alive.
Each corner of Casco Viejo is a treasure waiting to be discovered, making this an unforgettable journey through the heart of Panama’s heritage!
- Catedral Basilica Metropolitana Santa Maria La Antigua - Please note that this stop is part of the one-hour walking tour in the charming Old Town included in our Half Day City & Panama Canal Tour.
Step into the stunning Catedral Basílica Metropolitana Santa María La Antigua, a highlight of our tour!
This architectural marvel is the first cathedral in the Americas, showcasing a blend of colonial and modern styles.
As you enter, take a moment to admire its intricate details and rich history that resonate throughout the space. This short stop is perfect for snapping breathtaking photos that capture the essence of Panama’s heritage.
Don’t miss this chance to experience one of the most significant landmarks in the country!
- France Square - Welcome to Plaza de Francia, the grand finale of our tour!
This historic site pays tribute to the French efforts in the construction of the Panama Canal, a monumental feat that transformed global trade.
As you explore the plaza, you’ll be captivated by the stunning views of the Panama City skyline, the entrance to the Panama Canal, and the majestic Bridge of the Americas.
It’s not just a feast for the eyes; this plaza is also a fantastic spot for direct shopping from local artisans, allowing you to take home unique souvenirs that embody the spirit of Panama.
We invite you to linger a little longer, as this is the perfect place to enjoy a meal on the rooftops, plazas, or terraces of the charming Casco Antiguo.
Treat yourself to delicious local cuisine and soak in the vibrant atmosphere before concluding your unforgettable day!
- Biomuseo - Our walk around the Biomuseo Gardens offers a unique blend of ecological beauty and Canal history — making this the only tour in Panama that combines both in one enriching experience. Designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the museum’s vibrant exterior sets the stage for a peaceful walk along its surrounding trails, where native plants and ocean breezes accompany your steps.
From here, guests enjoy one of the most striking views of the Bridge of the Americas, a perfect photo opportunity with the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal in the background. This serene stop contrasts perfectly with the historical weight of earlier moments in the tour, offering time to relax, connect with nature, and reflect on Panama’s remarkable biodiversity.
The Biomuseo Gardens Walk is more than a pause — it’s a window into the natural side of the isthmus that changed the world, completing an unforgettable experience where history meets ecology.
