The adventure leads to Gatun Lake, where cruising around islands formed during the canal’s construction offers a chance to observe the rich wildlife along its shores.
- Pedro Miguel Locks - Visit an observation area on the Pacific side to explore the history, construction, and operation of the original Panama Canal.
- Lake Gatun - After witnessing a ship pass through the Pedro Miguel Locks, travel by car to the Chagres River. Here, embark on a boat tour of Gatun Lake, the largest lake within the Panama Canal. Sail alongside massive ships en route to the islands within Soberania National Park, where monkeys and other wildlife can be found.
- Agua Clara Locks - Journey to the city of Colon on the Atlantic side of the Canal for a lunch stop at a restaurant serving traditional Panamanian cuisine. Post-lunch, continue by car to explore the new Panama Canal expansion, observing larger ships navigating the locks and learning about these impressive structures.
- Gatun Dam - The Gatun Dam is a significant earth dam on the Chagres River in Panama, near the town of Gatun. Constructed between 1907 and 1913, it is a vital component of the Panama Canal. It creates Gatun Lake, which forms a 33 km section of the interoceanic corridor across the Isthmus of Panama, and houses a hydroelectric plant that generates electricity for the canal’s locks and other equipment.

Jose was awesome! So knowledgeable, must do tour! - Great tour! Jose was excellent, very informative and helpful, always making sure all our questions/needs were met! Went out of his way to ensure we had a great experience! We left a jacket in his car, and he drove back to the hotel the next day to deliver it.
