Legend has it that in a previous life, Lord Buddha, as a prince, sacrificed his body to a starving tigress and her five cubs, who were too weak to hunt. The Namobuddha Stupa, near the monastery, is said to contain the remains of this compassionate prince. The hike commences in the historic town of Panauti, traversing farmland, small woodlands, and villages en route to the top of Namobuddha.
