Sunrise Angkor Wat, Banteay Srei, Neak Pean, Pre Rup, and Preah Khan Temple
Angkor Wat - Tour pickup time: 5:00 am (including sunrise). Begin with a pre-dawn departure to witness the sunrise outside Angkor Wat. Enter the magnificent temple in darkness (please bring a torch) from the less-visited eastern side, and wander through ancient cloistered corridors past the world’s longest stretch of bas-relief carvings.
Banteay Srei - Continue the drive to the intricately carved and well-preserved Banteay Srei. The detailed reliefs on this smaller sandstone structure are considered the finest and most skillfully crafted in Cambodia. Banteay Srei has been accessible since the late 1990s, following the departure of the Khmer Rouge from the area.
Neak Pean - Return on your journey to visit Neak Pean temples, an artificial island with a Buddhist temple on a circular island in Jayatataka Baray.
Preah Khan - Continue your afternoon at Preah Khan temple, a captivating blend of tree roots and crumbling stone structures. Commissioned by the great ‘temple builder’ Jayavarman VII in honor of his father, this smaller site offers an interesting contrast to the more imposing Angkor Wat. Preah Khan is currently being restored by the World Monument Fund and is in remarkably good condition in some areas. Return to town in the late afternoon after a memorable day of exploration.
Pre Rup - Pre Rup is a Hindu temple built as the state temple of Khmer King Rajendravarman, dedicated in 961 or early 962. It is a temple mountain constructed with a combination of brick, laterite, and sandstone.
