Founded in the 10th century and rebuilt in the 15th century by Charles I d’Amboise, this castle has been a protected monument since 1840 and is now state-owned and open to the public. In 1559, Catherine de Medici compelled Diane de Poitiers to accept the Château de Chaumont in exchange for the Château de Chenonceau. Diane de Poitiers spent her last three years here.
