Day 03: Thimphu - Punakha

Rinpung Dzong - Known as Paro Dzong, it houses the monastic body and district government offices. Built in 1644 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it has protected Paro from Tibetan invasions. Below the dzong is the Nyamai Zam, a traditional wooden bridge reconstructed after a flood in 1969.

Paro Taktsang - Enjoy a breakfast hike to Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliff in the upper Paro Valley. The 2 to 2.5-hour walk is said to follow the path of Guru Rinpoche, who flew here on a tigress to establish the monastery in the 8th Century.
