- Kek Lok Si Temple - Perched on hillside terraces overlooking Air Itam, Malaysia’s largest Buddhist temple is a feast for the eyes. Constructed between 1890 and 1905, Kek Lok Si stands as a pillar of the Malay-Chinese community, which funded its two-decade-long construction and ongoing enhancements. Notable features include the seven-tier Thousand-Buddha Pagoda and an impressive 36.5-meter-high bronze statue of the Goddess of Mercy.
To access the temple’s main entrance, visitors must navigate through a series of souvenir stalls along the uphill path. Along the way, a pond teeming with turtles can be seen. Although there are numerous stairs, the final ascent to the statue of the Goddess of Mercy is facilitated by a funicular.
