Perth to Margaret River
Busselton - Just a couple of hours south of Perth, the journey begins with a rewarding experience at FAWNA, where participants engage in a few hours of volunteer work. This remarkable non-profit organization, entirely volunteer-run since 1984, supports wildlife rehabilitators in providing exceptional care for orphaned, injured, or abandoned wildlife. Tasks vary daily and may include cleaning wildlife enclosures, gardening, or tree planting. Meet and learn from the dedicated individuals who protect the region’s wildlife, including the critically endangered Western Ringtail Possums, kangaroos, birds, and reptiles.
Busselton Jetty - In the bustling tourist town of Busselton, the 19th-century jetty extends 1.8km into the stunning turquoise waters of Geographe Bay. Enjoy a coffee and discuss the exciting adventures ahead on the Esperance tour.
Ngilgi Cave Ancient Lands Experience - A short drive away, the Ngilgi Cave Ancient Lands offers an immersive above and below-ground experience. Descend beneath the earth’s surface for a 45-minute semi-guided tour of the beautifully adorned Ngilgi Cave. Above ground, explore 600 million years of stories related to the land and its people. Follow a pathway through native bushland, bringing to life the creation of the land, cave formations, cultural connections, and native flora and fauna through a series of experiential nodes.
Margaret River Region - After a picnic lunch, savor the world-renowned Margaret River region. Visit a couple of cellar doors for wine tastings.
Big Valley Campsite - Arrive at the campsite to unwind over dinner and spend the first night under the stars of the Milky Way. Today’s driving distance is approximately 320km.
Margaret River to Walpole
Cape to Cape Track - Begin the day with an inspiring 7km hike along one of the most picturesque sections of the Cape to Cape Track, from Conto’s to Redgate Beach.
Redgate Beach - Cool off with a refreshing swim.
Margaret River - Enjoy some free time to explore the main street, discover the eclectic mix of shops and galleries, and have lunch.
Walpole & Albany Region
William Bay National Park - After breakfast, pack up camp and head to William Bay National Park. Here, the turquoise water and pristine white sand are perfect for swimming at Greens Pool.
Albany - Travel along a scenic stretch of coastline to Albany, witnessing how natural erosion over the years has sculpted incredible rock formations and granite bluffs.
The Gap and Natural Bridge - Natural Bridge and The Gap are two highlights of the area.
Mt Trio to Cape Le Grand National Park
Esperance - This morning, cover some distance, but by lunchtime, the turquoise waters will replace the red dirt as the journey continues into Esperance. This part of Western Australia boasts no fewer than nine national parks and some of the world’s best beaches.
Dempster Head - After lunch, connect with the land during a 90-minute Dabungool Cultural Experience. Join local Wudjari Nyungar mother and daughter as they guide a coastal walk to learn about the six seasons, bush food, and medicinal plants that have sustained the Wudjari people for thousands of years.
Cape Le Grand National Park - Travel a bit further east to Cape Le Grand National Park, where the group will set up camp at Lucky Bay. Here, the ocean displays every imaginable shade of blue, and the sand is so white and fine it squeaks underfoot. The rest of the day is free to explore. Enjoy a bush walk through the untamed landscape or relax on the beach and soak in the tranquility. Today’s driving distance is around 525km, with numerous stops along the way.
Cape Le Grand National Park
Cape Le Grand National Park - Sunrise is a special time here, and it’s also when the friendly western grey kangaroos are most active. Stroll onto the beach to greet them before spending the entire day exploring this incredible national park, one of Australia’s most biodiverse regions. Traverse lush bushland, swim in stunning bays and coves, and learn about the abundant flora and fauna. Choose from several hikes or simply relax on the beach.
This afternoon, embark on one of the tour’s best hikes, climbing Frenchman Peak to watch the sunset on the last night together.
There are only 10km of driving today within the national park.
Esperance to Perth
Wave Rock - Stop for lunch in a quintessential outback town, then continue to the 2,700-million-year-old Wave Rock. Rising 15 meters above the ground, this natural granite wonder offers a must-have photo opportunity.
York - Afterwards, return to the bus to visit the historic township of York. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, it’s easy to see why this location was the first inland settlement for Western Australia’s early colonists. Learn about the Rabbit-Proof Fence, constructed between 1901 and 1907 to keep rabbits and other agricultural pests from the east out of Western Australia.
Perth - Finally, arrive in Perth around 6:30 pm after traveling approximately 780km with stops along the way.
