Waqrapukara is a mysterious site, built in isolation, far from most other locations in Cusco. It was regarded as more sacred than Machu Picchu. A key feature is a vaulted niche with three jambs that faces the sunrise, visible upon arrival. Its design and challenging access suggest it was intended to be a secret. Little is known about its purpose. The surrounding valley offers breathtaking views, providing a glimpse of a lesser-seen side of Cusco.

Waqrapukara is considered off the beaten path. There is also a 2-day hike available, which includes exploring tombs on the mountain ridge. Inside these tombs lie the untouched remains of the Qanchi, who lived during the Inca era.
