From there, they will travel by private car from Iquitos to Nauta, a journey of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Pacaya Samiria 4-Day Adventure
Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - At 8:00 AM, guests will be welcomed at the airport or hotel. From there, they will travel by private car from Iquitos to Nauta, a journey of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Upon arrival, they will board a slow motorboat (pamacari) to navigate the Marañón River for about 3 hours and 30 minutes, reaching the town of Santo Domingo. Here, at the PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE checkpoint, registration will take place before heading to Buenos Aires for the first overnight stay.
The journey continues along the Yanayacu Pucate basin, where guests can admire gray and pink dolphins, as well as various birds such as toucans, macaws, seagulls, kingfishers, and camungos. After returning to the local house, a night walk will be organized to observe nocturnal wildlife, including tarantulas, snakes, and night monkeys. Dinner and rest will follow.
Jungle Camping Experience
Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Day 2
Before breakfast, guests will enjoy canoeing on the Huayllas River to spot the famous sloths and prehistoric birds like shanshos. After returning for breakfast, preparations will be made for camping. A motorboat ride of 1 hour and 30 minutes will take guests to the quebrada alban, a strategic point.
A guided jungle walk will provide insights into medicinal plants such as cat’s claw, dragon’s blood, and grapes, as well as the lifestyle of local villagers. Along the way, guests will see giant trees like ceiba, capiruri, and cedar. Lunch will be served, followed by a night canoe trip to observe alligators in their natural habitat. Dinner and rest will conclude the day.
Camping at Iricahua Lake
Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - After breakfast, guests will pack their camping gear and prepare to venture deeper into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. A 1-hour boat ride will lead to Iricahua Lake.
An expedition will be conducted to observe primates and other wildlife in their natural environment. Lunch will be provided, followed by an exploration of a canoe gulch. At the end of the gulch, guests will disembark to search for Amazonian animals such as armadillos (locally known as carachupa), anteaters, and rodents like Majaz and Añuje. Participants will also learn how to cut and drink from the “Water Noose,” a vine useful for survival.
Return to Buenos Aires and Nauta, Arriving in Iquitos
Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Day 4
Guests will engage in artisanal fishing using peasant rods, arrows, or machetes, catching various fish species such as piranhas, badre, tucunare, or catfish. Lunch will be served.
The return journey to the village of Buenos Aires includes an optional visit to meet the villagers and learn about their customs, culture, and lifestyle. After lunch, guests will return to the city of Nauta, then proceed to Iquitos, concluding at the hotel or airport.
