Perfect day in the Douro Valley - A perfect day in the Douro Valley! João took us to places we would never have found on our own with unique wines and wonderful people. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Had a wonderful day with... - Had a wonderful day with Joao. We were picked up at our hotel and he took us first to a small family run winery where we toured the facilities and had a tasting. The winemaker was there and came out to answer questions and explain the wines a bit. We then went to lunch a local restaurant where our host ordered several delicious traditional dishes. The workers from the winery were also eating lunch there so you know it’s good! The afternoon had two more wineries - one smaller winery and another larger, but still local, winery. In between wineries he told us about the history of the region, some fun facts, etc. overall it was a great day and highly recommended!

An amazing day of celebrating wine and people! - This was a fantastic tour to small family run wineries. Sara was amazing as a guide. She is knowledgeable of the area and the wines, and was a delight to be with. Her passion for the people and their craft was evident! It was a well planned and wonderful day.

First class . . . - Well worth taking a full day trip from Porto into the amazing Douro Valley. If you appreciate a first class experience then you’ll find the tour with João hard to beat. He lives in the valley and is very well connected, very knowledgeable. The whole family really enjoyed our visit.

Amazing day in the Duro - Joao was great. He took us to two very different wineries. The first was a family run vineyard making wine via organic methods. Even the design for the bottles were as unique as the wine and they sold to local restaurants. The second was part of the Symington family of wineries and was also great. Looking out onto the river while tasting wines doesn’t get much better. Joao also took us to a local restaurant for lunch where we had traditional dishes with some more wine. Finally after touring all around the valley Joao saved the best for last. He took us to a wine maker who had some of the most delicious Tawny port. The 40 & 50 year old small batches are made by a local and sold locally. Best of all when we went to dinner that night the restaurant we had made reservations with carried both the organic wine and small batch port. Needless to say we had we had a bottle with dinner. I would highly recommend as Joao was great and very knowledgeable.

Amazing Experience - Our experience with Joao was nothing short of amazing. He was incredibly responsive from the first time we reached out to him before we left for our trip abroad. We started our first day with Joao as strangers and ended up as friends. It truly felt like we were touring with a good friend that knows the area very well. His love of his country and the wines and ports produced in the Douro Valley is evident. We spent two days with Joao. The first to Douro Valley from Porto and the second travelling to Lisbon from Porto. In the Douro Valley he first took us to a small family-owned vineyard with excellent wines which we purchased to be shipped back to the States. He then took us to a small family-owned Port maker with the most delicious port we have ever had. The owners of the two places in the Duoro Valley Joao took us to were also incredibly welcoming. Our trip from Porto to Lisbon was a long one with many stops along the way for Joao to show us some highlights of his country. Both trips were extremely reasonable in price. Even after our return to the States, Joao continued to be helpful in assisting us with wines we purchased in Portugal. We cannot recommend Joao enough.

Perfect day of Porto - Joao was absolutely amazing! By far the best tour I've ever done and the best part about our trip to Portugal. He is a wealth of knowledge about the region and so passionate about sharing everything he knows. He took us to 3 wineries where we went on private tours and he ordered wine tastings for us, as well as to a local spot for lunch. He even found a perfect spot for me to pick a fresh orange and helped undercover photograph the moment my boyfriend proposed. I would highly recommend Joao to anyone looking for the very best of Portugal!

Absolutely Worth It! - This was the best wine tour in Douro Valley! I researched all of the big group tours, but am so glad we paid a little extra to do the private tour. Joao picked us up at our hotel and drove us out to the Douro Valley and told us about the history of the area and winemaking on the scenic drive. We visited three wineries, tried so much amazing wine, and got to meet a lot of the families and wine experts at each place. Everyone was so knowledgeable, passionate, and all of the wine and food was delicious. It was definitely a highlight for our Portugal trip. Don’t even think about other tours - just go with this one and you’ll be glad you did.

Excellent private tour with expert - Our day with Joao was terrific. Joao is very knowledgeable on the beautiful Douro valley and its wines. We had a private tour where we saw multiple wineries and enjoyed an authentic local lunch, all with full explanation from Joao. We would highly recommend this tour and look forward to a chance to join João again.
